California - Northern

Glad you got it! I saw that on CL and seriously contemplated driving 2 hours to get it.

I have bunnies due on 3/14. My two girls are litter mates and have been living in a 6 x 6 corner of a horse stall together for the past 6 months. I contemplated separating them so they could have their babies but after reading up on rabbit colonies and talking to a couple of breeders I was assured they would be fine welping in the same environment. My girls are super bonded and I am afraid if I separate them their relationship won't be the same when reintroduced. If anyone is interested, I can keep you posted on how it goes.

I would love to have updates? What breed are your bunnies? My kids used to show rabbits as their first 4H animal then went on to sheep, & pigs. I raised meat rabbits years ago & had a little processing station set up out in the rabbit barn, Anytime my grandmother called from town and ask I would go butcher a couple of fryers for her. It was certainly easier than processing chickens.....LOL

Here is the chick hospital this morning. I keep expecting the little silkie not to make it. I though she wasn't going to make it out of the shell. Then, I never thought she was going to make it through the night. She's still fighting. The little white one at the bottom is Pie (Pe-ay), the one that tried to hatch foot first.

So happy to see they are doing okay. Those 'get ups" you have on the feet are so interesting. Is that something you came up with, or is it a regular foot fixer than you buy.????

1st pip in eggs due to hatch tomorrow!!! It is either a Cream Legbar/Pita Pinta mix or a Lav AM/Pita Pinta mix. My little AMs are almost 2 yrs old but lay pullet sized eggs so I'm not sure who laid this blue egg. It's a good thing that I have a full agenda today or I would have my nose glued to the incubator all day!

Debi, I need you to PM me on what eggs or chicks you can have available at the party so I can make a list please..... Or post it if you are interested in multiple sales/trades . As if you needed anything else. I think you have gotten worse than me.....LOL

I'm so sorry for what Kimmie and Aaron are going through. Cancer sucks and I very rarely use that word.

Talking about deals. I just found this one on craigslist and emailed the person. This is not the Hovabator 1588, unfortunately. I think that it is the 1602 but is brand new and comes with a fan kit. Do you think that it is worth the price?

Heck yeah I think it's a good deal. The cheapest I have found a new turner was $42 at T/S & that was on sale 2 or 3 years ago. I do love the new digital readout one but more than twice that with shipping just over $200.

Thanks for the thoughts Debi. I try not to dwell but it is a daily sadness for us all. Some days better than others. I hope I can get Aaron to the party, but we just don't know what's in store between now & then. We are trying to get them to come out & live with us here so we all can help.
Cockerels are processed at16 weeks and pullets are processed at 20 weeks.

They are very Tasty!
I didn't see the pot you were responding to but as far as I know. Sarah Carson is still looking for meat birds. I can contact her & give her the inf. I don't know if she ever contacted Liz about hers either. I don't know where they are but I will be taking a trip to Guinda soon if anybody needs eggs etc transported that way or back.

Yep, make sure you process them early! If you wait until they are past a year, be prepared to cook them long!
I waited until 22 weeks on one and it was noticeably tougher than the 18 week old Bresse. It was still very tasty though.

All of the home raised birds have been very tasty so far.

@chiqita wow bresse mature so fast! One of the cockerels just started crowing!

Does anyone want some meat birds? Lol

@sewandgrow do your people still want cockerels for processing?

Sorry Liz, I passed right by this post somehow & just came back looking for it after seeing Ron's response. I will contact Sarah again. She says she does. Are you going to the Youth Show this month at MJC.?? I know she is involved in that.
