Ron....why would these do better pointy end up?

For the Storage of eggs, cold storage or long term storage works better pointy end up.

Kim posted a study that showed a better hatch rate with eggs saved this way.

Not for incubating them though. They still should be big end up for incubation.

Question for quail people out there, does it increase crowing when males can see/hear each other?

I love the sound of his crow but with only 1 male we have only heard him about 6 times. Call me crazy but I wish he would sound off more often.

Some are just louder. If you want mad crowing put them in a cage next to the wimmenz.
(I do not know why I think roosters call female animals wimmenz. But I do! I never call them anything else in the context of male/female relations.)

Boys caged together crow a ton too. The will crow more when the girls are naturally laying and the hormones kick in.

There is a breeder in Norco CA who has 2 doz California Grey eggs for sale or trade on the Flock Talk FB page. He doesn't have the price on them. I'm waiting to hear what it is. I'll let you ladies know once he answers back.

MichaelApple from Sonoma County occasionally shows up here on the Nor Cal thread. He has a young flock too. With all the broody energy I am putting out I should be able to get eggs from him and hatch them this year too.

We had a crazy laying day yesterday. Got the first three quail eggs of the season, the pigeon layed the first of her latest clutch, a first egg from a blrw, almost 100% from the other bantams. Of course the 1 I wanted to lay didn't. I had hopes of hatching a few BBS ORP bantams, maybe I should go deliver a memo to her.

At least advise her that if she doesn't start producing soon it will go in her permanent record...

Chickee, the pictures you posted of your hatch are what pushed me over the edge! I didn't need more than a nudge anyway. They also had the phoenix bantams, I told Mariah I would get her one after she fell for 1 we had entered at the fair 3 years ago.

DH surprised me, when he found out we had eggs coming his comment was: "More chickens?", silly boy.

I know your going to be real happy with them

The hens beg to be held and cuddled. I am always afraid I am going to step on one!
