Wow! Much drama here this morning. Something came in the big dog door and attacked my seremas on the covered porch .

Everyone is fine but that is scary. One of the new girls screams like a baby. I woke from a dead sleep and ran buck naked out to see what was happening. Mario said the fox tried on the ducks tonight too and tried to tip the quail cage over. It has avoided the trap might need other means.

How scary! Glad everyone is OK. I think if a fox saw me running toward it naked it would never come back!

So I'm getting baby chicks! 6 Straight Run Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, and 1 Cream Legbar. Woohoo!
I want to set up the brooder in the garage, but it gets really cold outside at night, and I'm afraid the garage would be too cold for them, even with a heat lamp. Of course, by the time I get them it will be the first or second week of April. Should they be fine to have their brooder in the garage by then? How do I make sure they stay warm enough at night?
Also, what size brooder do I need for 7 chicks? Been about a year since I've brooded babies :)
In the past I've used old glass aquarium tanks that I've found at garage sales for $1-$2 with a light bulb for heat. I wouldn't use newspaper for the floor - I liked to use the spongy netting used to line kitchen drawers with. I had 2 or 3 per tank so I could have a clean backup ready to go when I needed to clean things out. I know of another breeder that uses cardboard boxes with no lids - easily disposable after each hatch. Plastic bins are nice too because they can be cleaned & reused.

When I got referred out during the big bear escapades.  I did the phone trail all over the place to find someone in charge.  Here is what I learned.  It is a felony to transport wild animals such as that.  It is not however, a felony to dispose of an animal once it has threatened your family or belongings.

Hm. Here if you let off a fire arm in the Tahoe basin you WILL be arrested on a felony. And a BEaR!!!!- felony. They relocate. That is if you choose to call them. There is a "bear league" here and although they may have started out with good intentions some if them are out of control.

Well I am bummed.  I have shingles.  Its rather horrible.  I'm stuck at home wishing I could rip part of my face off.  Yes it's that bad.  I'm only 36 and a nursing mother so it took a while before they diagnosed (too young for shingles) and then I can't have the antiviral (nursing) so I'm stuck miserable.

What kills me is that I'm bored and my incubator doesn't work.  I can't even shop for eggs.  Shopping for eggs is so much fun!  There you have it.  I have shingles and I'm mad that I can't shop for eggs.

Maybe anti viral essential oils would help. Let me check my oil bible, ... I'm sure you know it's commonly te activated by stress and it immune deficiency....

Anyhow-
Blend one : 10 drops lavender, 10 drops melaleuca ( tea tree oil ), 10 drops thyme , 1 tbs fractionated coconut oil (liquid) rub into bottoms if your feet and or area.

I use doTerra brand cause it is 100% pure tested by a third party lab.

I hope you feel better soon!!!!!

Thank you for the oil tips. I do use them (oils). In fact, I think that is why it was so slow coming on. I thought I had a big spider bite and was treating it topically with Melaleuca alternated with immupower. When the lymph glands started to swell, I treated them. They are still not as big as typically seen on a full-fledged shingles outbreak. Yes, I'll admit it. I was under too much stress lately - for the last 6 months solid - from outside sources. Severely ill/dying grandparents, in house company (both sides of the family) for over a month solid, starting a new business, you name it - we've had it! Stress hasn't abated yet. Hoping for a break soon! My husband has been out of town working every week for several weeks. No other family help so I'm on my own (I simply can NOT imagine how wives of service-men cope). He did come home last night for a few hours and left again this morning. We are hoping that this Friday is his last out of town day for a couple weeks. Having him around will reduce my work load significantly! That alone will help me rest and heal.

I use Doterra too! love their oils, have another order coming soon.
The OnGaurd I found to be a great help. I use InTune and other focusing oils for my son. That and going Gluten Free has really helped him to stay focused in school. And the lemon in water is great!

Sending hugs and prayers your way! Just rest and heal.

This post is aimed at Modesto Area people. (Stockton to Turlock = both easy driving to my house)

I'm getting together a chick order coop for birds from Duane Urch. I'd like Dark Brahma's and don't need 25.

Chicks end up being $8.40 each after shipping.

Let me know if there is something you want. PM me for the list.

Evidently I don't have permission for attachments.

Thank you
