Lisa is right! You are a top notch chicken enabler!

I just had a thought flash through my head that said "hmmm I wonder when my orp is going to go bloody, it's usually around this time....." Oh Boy! It's all the beautiful chicks you all are hatching and the different breeds! Congrats on all the successful hatching everyone!
Sandy, you know that I have eggs (or chicks) if you ever want them! I'm so curious to see what these green egg laying Pita Pinta/Cream Legbar chicks will look like when they mature. Some of the older chicks are starting to show some brown in their feathers. I personally love surprise chicks! I don't want all of them to be that way but having a few mixed breeds is fun!

Yeah......Debi. I am so glad that Monet is actively interested. I wish Olivia had stayed interested. Maybe she should have tried a sweet breed of bantams. Her huge Australorps were intimidating to her at 9 & now at almost 13 she is not interested at all.
She doesn't really have a choice. George is in Santa Cruz all week and some chicken jobs are two people jobs. I get some sighs and bordering on eye rolls from her but she helps when I need it. She even occasionally volunteers to help without me asking!

If they were my birds I'd be more worried, but they are from light brown (for Marans) eggs. I don;t know what the hens look like or even if she is sure they are from the Marans hens. I will get a picture of the feathers later. 2 more chicks hatched overnight...one more pipped. Of course the ones that hatched over night were one blue and one Marans and they look very much alike. Why can't the blue ones hatch alone and the other breeds hatch at the same time??? Very inconsiderate if you ask me.

But that leaves 3 more that I am hoping will hatch from this clutch. They have not pipped yet, but today is Day 21.

Agreed! I will not buy "Amer-whatever" from hatcheries or feed stores again. I have heard more stories about them laying brown eggs than blue or green. Lots of them still call them Amaraucanas but if you see the disclaimer that they are "not for 4-H" that tells you they do not meet SOP and likely are mixed with other breeds. On the Belt site, they even say "Known as the "Easter Egg" chicken".
I have one "Americana" that we got from a feed store the first year we had chickens. That was before I knew anything about the Ameraucana/EE controversy! Dini lays a beautiful green egg and has been a good chicken even though she is not a real prolific layer. She came from Ideal Hatchery.

It is hatch day!!!

I woke up to 6 chicks and 8 pips! Of course, not a single Langshan egg shows any sign of action. Zorro's babies are beating Shang's in the race to hatch!

That is exciting! Those Pita Pintas are amazing

No, There is no enabling in that post!

I have been trying to imagine what those chick would look like. I may have to do some crossing.

Pita Pinta X UofA Blue?

I'm hoping that this cross will lay beautiful big green eggs, develop quickly, and taste good. I'm also hoping that the Pita Pinta in there will make a friendlier bird. My Cream Legbar and CL mixes are very flighty & not very friendly. So far, adding the PP genes has resulted in some very friendly birds. The 6 week old PP/Langshan mixes are so friendly that I can't keep them away from clustering at my feet when I'm in their pen. I can hardly walk through the pen. I hope that they stay friendly.

A PP/UofA mix would be fun to see!
