Ok, i need help with shade tarps.
I'm looking for something that will give nice shade, but be breathable.
i've seen some online but not sure if they'll make the area hotter than it is already.
Anyone use any shade cloths or shade tarps?
I just saw rolls of shade cloth today at Costco - nice neutral tans & browns woven together.
I didn't look at dimensions or price, though.
I have seen single colors rolls (green, tan, or black) at Lowe's.

I have used them as dividers in a flight before & they were great. They remain breathable as long as they don't have too much dust or dirt on them.

I have also heard that food and water should be as far apart as possible to enhance body/muscle tone. I've never raised them but I was told that was how to get best results. Others here will know more I'm sure.
But you have to be careful, because sometimes you will have a couple that are so lazy that they won't walk to the water, get dehydrated, and die. They really are weird little things. They won't stand up unless they have to, I Put the food on top of bricks, or a board, so they have to stand up to eat.

I absolutely HATED the cornishx roasters. They were so lazy that they wouldn't even eat treats like strawberry tops. They'd just look at them and then stomp them into the poo while they waddled back and forth from the water to the feeder. They also stink like nothing else. Amazingly bad smell. And ours were pastured in a moving cage!

They are easy to process. It's like they have no brain so you don't even care. Truly defines all brawn and no brain!

I can believe it. I haven't seen many but the older ones could barely walk, they had Frigidaire written all over them!

I have heard the issue is they can grow to fast if given to much high protein food. I did some hunting around before I made my purchase of birds and found that the Cornish cross was from a white Cornish rooster and a Barred Rock hen. I also learned that the white Cornish rooster was lazy and would rather just eat the feed than to forage. I chose the Dark Cornish as they are supposed to be good foragers and mine is and the Barred Rock hen. I wasn’t sure if I was going to have to but the eggs in the incubator as most birds from the hatcheries have breed the nesting out but after about 9 months one of the hens was not their at time to go in at night 2 days later I founder with 15 eggs under the Periwinkle in the side yard. She hatched 13 of the eggs I was very impressed. I ended up losing most to predators since I wanted to let her be a mom. I won’t make that mistake again.
Good luck.

Hi all -
I have a very broody cuckoo marans & I'd love to stick some eggs under her.
Does anyone know of any showgirl hatching eggs for sale locally (probably 8 would fit under my hen)?
I could swing a drive of up to 2 hrs 1-way from Fairfield.
Thanks.

The genetics is way more complicated than that. I believe it is a cross (but not a direct one) between white rock and Cornish.

13 chicks out of 15 eggs is great!!! What a good mom.

That it good to know!

Some the ones that grow out in 6 weeks are 3 and 4 way hybrid crosses. I am not sure what all the crosses are.
