California - Northern

Well the biggie babies are outside now I locked them in overnight last night but they have gotten the idea and now are spending most of their time inside and were all in by dark. I can tell this little coop is not going to be big enough for all 6 and barely big enough for the 4. I really need to get cracking on the new coop and run I probably have about 5 weeks before the BO are this big.

Does anyone know if the BO grow slower than Delawares. They appear to be slightly behind in development pace. And the Delawares seem to have grown overnight just by being outside.

Its amazing how much they change week by week.

The color patterns seem to change day by day too. I'll post some pics soon again maybe someone can help me figure out if I have 1 or more Roo's Im wondering If I should pick up a couple more BO this week just in case. I think they could fit with 2 bitty babies as they will only be a week and a half. More Delawares arent available for a number of weeks.

I'm going to get my brother in law to help me build a garage brooder. My wife wants to raise the chicks for her brothers to have at their homes in a couple months.

I have a question I need help with:
Someone wants chicks to replace birds they lost to mareks. Apprently it's going through their flock. 3 died, 1 is sick and she thinks she'll get better.
I vaccinate for mareks, but i don't think it's a good idea to bring in new ones so soon, but I have no experience with this.
Obviously they couldn't be around the hen for a few weeks, but still having it so fresh kind of makes me uneasy. How long do you wait for it to run through a flock before bringing new ones in?

They need 2 weeks minimum for the vacc to take hold. As to when it goes away.. it won't.

I tucked them in with some olandsk, faverolle, and a oe under the ecoglow Then dragged my bootie upstairs. Apparently 3500 is a no go at this point also. Which also cancels costco trips:-( I'll have some favors to call in this next month to get my off the hill shopping done .

They are so stinking cute I'm tempted to put them in my bedroom! Haha, my dh would really think I lost it. I can see why you and Debi love them - sweet and inquisitive just like my olandsk.
So glad that you like them! My newly hatched brooder is sure a lot quieter without them in there! We got home just in time to shut the coop doors. If was a very productive day! We sold 19 chicks, visited our best friends, and picked up a Langshan trio in Pilot Hill then took them to the farm. I'm wiped out! Tomorrow it is time to sanitize the incubator and get it ready for the next hatch!

The 2 chicks are so happy to get new friends!! Thanks @PetRock

The little one in front is one of the originals. A Legbar cross.

You're welcome! I'm so glad that you like them and that they have a good home! Keeping fingers crossed that all three are pullets!

My son has his way with the wee ones. The ducklings literally flock to him. Happened 2 years ago too.

I think I asked this before but I am going to ask again, does anyone know of any Orpington breeders in Sonoma County? That sells sexed chicks? I sadly can't take the risk of a roo where I live so can't buy straight run chick or hatching eggs.

Most breeders level chicks are straight run. It is hard to tell sex with day old Oprs. and many do not want to take the price loss by growing them out until you can tell.

Vent sexing is the most accurate way to tell with them at a day old. Not many people do it though because it is hard and can hurt the pullets.

@lualshannon Might have Orpingtons.
