Woo Hoo!!!!  I bet you are very glad you waited!  What day did you think they were on?
i was thinking 22/23 and my hubs was really ready for me to pack up some of the bators . We are putting in bamboo flooring / pine baseboard ( my demands before the baby comes) and a few doors replaced . It's a small house with 7 people and construction the last batch were put in a quiet corner in a back bedroom. And would you believe this is the most pips I've had in this sad hatching season!

WOW! I just candled the 41 Runner Duck eggs I set for the Easter HAL and 40 of them are developing!!!! There is also growth in about 9 of the 12 meat bird eggs and some of the guinea eggs AND...there are 3 hatchlings under the broody hen this morning. 6 More eggs to go under her. She is a first time broody FBC Marans.
That's a LOT of little ducks! I can just imagine the cuteness

How exciting! And I think the flashlight on a lanyard is a GREAT idea!

Quote: I'm so happy you are getting so many pips! I have had to start writing everything down. I thought I would remember, but now I have 2 'bators full....another one on the way, 3 broodies going and had to break out the ancient still air hovabator because GQF told me the Genesis was shipped on Friday, but the tracking this morning still just shows the electronic info was sent.....but the package not yet received by Fedex. I called GQF this morning and they don't know what happened either. They are supposed to call me back. I have the Mottled Ameraucana eggs that need to be set today and some more guinea eggs.....

I know! I hope they all hatch...these are for the lady that trains her Corgis in herding them. I love ducklings, but they are too messy and too noisy to keep any here. Besides....they woul eat the few fish we have left in our pond after the raccoons raided it this past winter. They ate about $500 worth of Koi...

The Spanish breeds from Megan are resistant too. The Basque and Pita Pintas have had no trouble with anything yet.

Another reason to raise Pita Pintas!!! I have a bunch of 2 week old PPs and eggs in the incubator if anyone is interested!

But not always. I lost a hen two years ago to Mareks cancer and she had been vaccinated as a chick.
Yes, from what I have read, it save a couple of percent from cancer.

I would consider using the vaccine if I had a susceptible breed though.

The vaccine protects against mareks Cancer when they are two years old.

The vaccine is *not* a guarantee, but it does improve your odds. BYC's Nambroth and Seminolewind have done lots of Marek's research and have found a place that can do a blood test for it.

I am so sad....had the worst hatch ever. Out of 14 shipped eggs only had 6 make it to lockdown and only one hatched. All the others were dead inside the eggs fully formed including 3 from my own flock. I didn't do anything different than my previous incubation and had great results last time. It really sucked. Ok done complaining now. At least I got 2! :)
