I am so sad....had the worst hatch ever. Out of 14 shipped eggs only had 6 make it to lockdown and only one hatched. All the others were dead inside the eggs fully formed including 3 from my own flock. I didn't do anything different than my previous incubation and had great results last time. It really sucked. Ok done complaining now. At least I got 2!![]()
Quote: He is 4. I taught him to always be gentle with animals especially babies. He also plays very well with infants and toddlers younger than he.. he just rough and tumbles and beats up anyone bigger than him LOL. It must be the hair, they did not do that with me lol.
I missed that liz. I'm so sorry. Those small eggs are tricky. You have done such an amazing job so far!Quote:
They were so pretty so many different colors. Almost wish I didn't open them but did just in case one was alive.
Do you think I could not kill them all with a small enough needle? I would be up for it if I could get the equipment and do it by hand. I hate it when people loose pets and I know my silkies are not fully immune stock. I think the bresse are. Marans I should ask peter if he vaccs.I think this would be the ideal method! Again, I'm no expert, but Nambroth and Seminolewind have commented that there are a few different types of the vaccine available to hatcheries, but backyarders like us can only get one of them (don't quote me on that, 'cause I may have misunderstood what they were saying). -Kathy
X2 Had to blow it up to see for sureJust the way the plates underneath the eggs and the chick are arranged it made me initially that you had a snake in there.
I've seen this a lot with ducklings they seem to imprint on humans differently than chickens. I wonder if its a difference in water fowl in general and their base instincts are different. It might be the "flock" sense and structure is different with them or something in the fact that we have domesticated out certain traits that are still there with ducks but it seems that ducklings form attachments with humans very differently than chickens. Just from my casual observationsHe is 4. I taught him to always be gentle with animals especially babies. My Marans are fine so they could be added to the list.I missed that liz. I'm so sorry. Those small eggs are tricky. You have done such an amazing job so far!

I have no idea how one would do it. Send a PM to Nambroth and Seminolewind or call a hatchery, maybe they could tell you? -KathyI missed that liz. I'm so sorry. Those small eggs are tricky. You have done such an amazing job so far!Quote:

They did not inject the chicks--the vaccine must move through the egg at that point.I have no idea how one would do it. Send a PM to Nambroth and Seminolewind or call a hatchery, maybe they could tell you?

Quote: Yes they do seem too, but out of the family they all favor my son. They also love to be sung to. I had the bunch of 4 and put then in a towel in my lap and sang to them and they all passed out lol. It did calm them down. They are adults now and this give me that look when I am outside humming. I love the ducks :3
