Ok, I had a complete " oops moment"! I forgot that our 4 ducklings were out free ranging this evening and didn't put them back into the brooder. I just remembered at 9:30pm I rushed outside to find the ducklings sleeping with our 2 labs on the dog beds in the pump house. I am glad our dogs are so tolerant of poultry!

I'm about halfway between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe, up in the foothills. I don't know if you incubate (if you don't already............run.................it's a disease). Anyway, my Cream Legbars are laying heavily right now, 6-8 eggs per day, and I can ship eggs.

The majority were incubated for 33-34 days by two ducks, but they were having some issues, like too many eggs in a nest, so I put them in the incubator. One hen still has five eggs, but not sure if they're viable or not.
I may need your help with this later ny duck does not seem to be turning her eggs great And she has managed to get a lot of weird air cells in her eggs. I am anticipating needing some help helping. You and chrissyr can guide me through muscovy madness.
I have had only one EE who produced a pail blue egg and she is long gone but I would really like to acquire another blue egg producing hen any suggestions on who might be able to help me out in that department ..

So, I've got an order for 45 chickens from Murray McMurray in, and an order for 61 chickens from Cackle in. Excited beyond reason. e
So, chicken mathematicians, can you help me work this out... if I ordered 106 chickens, at least 50 are for sure freezer birds and x number of cockerels from the straight run are freezer-bound as well, and the hens from the order are being split between three households, how many chickens did I end up with? I've been crunching the numbers trying to figure it out, I think I somehow ended up with a negative number. This is very important to get accurate, it will steel my resolve to not get in touch with the person selling Marans on Craigslist.
Chicks are so sweet. I am not familiar with that breed & keep meaning to look it up. What is it with you Jason with the breed names that are hard to remember how to spell?????......LOL

Sounds like each of the 3 of you will get about 16/17 pullets...............Ah, come one, you should have a few Marans if for nothing else their chocolate colored eggs but they make excellent eating too......LOL
I've only ever seen three colors in person, pearl gray, white, lavender and pieds of those colors, so I have no idea, lol. Found this site, it has pictures of chicks and adults. http://www.guineafarm.com/#
The patterns certainly look the same Kathy but I don't study the chick colors too much. Right now I have BCMs, OEs, Delawares, Lavender Orpingtons & True Ams running together in the brooders hoping I can identify them. I banded the little OEs coming out of the incubator but guess what I see 2 little tiny green zip ties laying on the floor of the brooders...Oops.!!!!!....LOL These are just replacements for myself so it doesn't matter. Next time I will put the wing bands on earlier.....LOL
I am in Modesto and have Legbars, Ameraucana's, and EE's. We like blue eggs! The EE's are crossed with a Wheaten Ameraucana for the intense blue eggs. I will ship both Legbar and EE eggs but not the Ameraucana yet. PM me if you want
Quote: Well there are several different breeds that lay a nice clear egg. I've owned CL, Araucana and Ameraucana. I like them all, but I prefer the CL. They have the advantage of autosexing, they also make a very nice and tasty eating bird. Plus I love their looks, the crele markings and the crest. I find them to be friendly and have never had a problem with any of the roos I've owned.
It did take them a while to start laying, but once they started they lay nearly every day and their eggs are quite large.
A couple of people on here have mentioned they had problems with them in heat, that hasn't been my experience. I get way too many 100+ days in a row here and never had a problem with the legbars, despite I have lost some other birds to the heat. Anyway, they are a good dual purpose bird and great to look at in your yard.
New Coop framed about 7 feet tall at the highest.
Going to finish the wall facing sides soon so I can move it into place to finish it.
House on top forage feed and water will be below
Currrent coop which is a little small for the dels. The new one will be on the right side of this one and the large run will be connected to both
