Does this mean I will soon has local access to hatching eggs???? Lucky me...LOL

I will Jason Thanks. I haven't yet though.....Like I need another breed......LOL Too much eye candy gets us in big time trouble.
Oh yes Karen, you will most certainly have access! I'm so liking the Basque and Swedes for their egg dependability - already a bigger size than the Wyandottes. I may end up not doing the Wyandottes. Same with the Cream Legbars and Ameraucana's. I'm not sure I have the patience for Ameraucana's. Seriously - 7 months and no eggs?? You got to be kidding me! Meanwhile the Cream Legbars just lay away... trouble is they arn't bearded and I LOVE LOVE LOVE bearded chickens!

The Arkansas Blues will start laying for you by 20 weeks old.

Ron, are they bearded? That would be fun

I just hate how much it costs to get into a breed only to find that they are not all you wanted. Perhaps that is why people have 10 breeds. Because each one has something they like

HELP! I just went out collecting eggs and one of my english orp hens has her vent protruding?! like an egg is stuck in there. how do i get it out? poor thing:(

I just looked back at some of the photos from the closed thread. There was a slight beard on one of the pictures so it seems possible. Mine do not have beards so far.

For stuck eggs I use Calcium Gluconate at ~230mg/kg (230mg per 2.2 pounds) and vitamin E orally, put them in a quiet, dark place and let them lay.

This is what it looks like and you'll find it at TSC in the cattle section.

You can also use human tablets, but the liquid works much faster.

Edited to add:
I never have to give the calcium more than once or twice. This is not something that is done daily as too much calcium will cause other health problems.

Work with the calcium.

First though, get her inside and put her into a warm bath for 30 minutes. This helps them to relax and the egg will often come out.

Along with calcium, start giving them some Black Oil Sunflower Seeds each day.

ok I got gloves on and checked and I cant feel an egg. why could her vent be so swollen and protruding like that if there isnt even an egg in there?
