Aww...so sorry I can see that would be easy to do though. WHen I get my brooder box finished I am going to use the nipples in that and have worried about mot realizing it is low. I may look for a clear bucket.Ok im posting this so people can learn from my disaster.
We have a brooder inside with 3-4 week ond chocls. Dh forgot it in the watering cycle and the brooder is at an angle that there is a shadow on the warterer so it looks 1/2 full at a glance.
I saw that it wad completely empty this morning and filled it. BAD MOVE. It must have been empty for more then 24 hrs because they drank too fast. I didn't even think about limiting their hydration!
I lost a bunch and a bunch are still wobbly and sick. I feel a bit like a mass murderer this morning(![]()

What a day!Bad morning.....UI went out the see what color BLRW #3 was and found the egg had been sort of crushed. The chick was still alive (a blue of course) bur there was quite a bit of yolk with a good network of blood vessles all over it. It was about the size of a grape. I brought the chick inside and put in the incubtor that was still going from the quail hatch. I wrapped it in a warm moist paper towel. It peeped several tims so I waited for it to absorb the yolk. About an hour later I went to check on it and it had died,.... So mIss Broody will have 2 babies to raise...a blue and splash. I hope they turn out to be pullets.![]()
The quail with the bad leg is still bad and I think it will need to be put down......just don't know if I can do it.....
The guy who wanted my Roo stood me up. I waited 45 minutes and he never showed or call. He is starting to crow more. Really need to find him a home.
So......now that I got that off my chest....here are some pics of the fluffy quail.. Lots of different colors!!!

I did not know that! Major AHA! Moment! Thank you.All chickens eat open egg it is instictive. They all peck the shell to see if it is hatch worthy too. The key is to make rhe shell strong enough to survive the initial peck.
Okay, so, sick chickens. I posted about this yesterday. Two of them sound like they have a cold when they sneeze, but look and act fine otherwise.
-Do the chickens need to be treated, or is it like with a dog when they get a respritory infection you can just let it run it's course and they'll get over it?
-Are their eggs safe to eat while they are sick, or do I need to discard the eggs from the two sick hens?
-Do I need to treat the entire flock?
-I was told to use Tylan...can I put it in their water?
-It seems there are different forms of Tylan, which one do I buy?!
HELP. I'm so lost here. Sooo many questions that Google isn't helping me with. I just want my babies to feel better.
