So in case anyone ever wonders: Bresse make great moms. Day one.
But Have any of you ever seen a broody peck a little at the chick (it's feet actually) I think to get it to go back and hide under mama?
I don't recall seeing that before. I think that's what she was doing. Happened once, then that was it

Do you have pictures? :)

So Splash is no longer showing symptoms(wet sneezing, floppy comb)...if she's a carrier of MG will she still show up as positive with the blood test even though she's not showing symptoms? Should I send in two blood samples - one from Splash(who was the worst at one point) and one from a hen that still has wet sounding sneezes even though she's had 3 Tylan injections?

Maybe your wet sneeze chicken is allergic to your polish

Just kidding. Could be something else entirely. Especially since the untreated bird recovered so quickly.

Well we have had the most aggressive attack on the Buffs so far.

Red face actually bit and grabbed the neck of one of them (of course the one she pit was trying to play keep away with a watermelon

My daughter says that all 4 were ganging up on the 2 so she rescued the buffs which were happily sitting in her lap.

I cant supervise them all day so they are separated again (the littles cant reach the water in the run anyway)

Im working on getting some hiding spots for the little ones just need to figure out what.

Hahah!! Now that would be a first - allergic to another chicken. :)

I called UCD and they said even if she's not showing symptoms but is a carrier, it will come up as positive. I had to be transferred three different times to get an answer lol

It takes some time for them to get used to each other. Pecking is normal, just watch them to make sure they aren't too aggressive. It took 2 weeks for my hens to accept my Polish, and during that time she was scared and wouldn't eat/drink unless I put her right by the food.

Guess who has an incubator humming away in her back room?!

All of my chickens no matter how skittish they are generally for some reason, when I extend my hand to them with my wedding ring on it, will always eventually come up and peck at the gold ring,

All of them do this. Its funny. Even the most stand offish will come peck the ring if I leave my hand extended to them long enough. Its just a mostly plain gold band. It has some texturing and 2 lines that encircle the ring. but otherwise just a gold ring.

Ive begun to think Ill start calling it the "The One 'chicken' Ring"

Yes I think we are a bunch of funny yolks.
Hi my NorCal peeps,
I started building my coop today.

The nest box will be in the right corner - 1"cubed, is that really big enough for a Brahma?
A 1 foot cubed nest box? For a LF Brahma? LF Brahma's are huge, just enormous! I have one. She can completely fill a 5 gal bucket. I think 1 foot cubed is wide enough but perhaps not deep enough to allow her to feel safe. Just a thought. I have a nest box that is only about 14" deep in the SFH pen and they crawl in it, and sometimes things happen. Today one laid an egg with her hind end hanging far enough out that the egg fell to the bottom of the coop and broke. That nest box needs fixing!

THE COOP IS ALMOST DONE!!!

Which is good, because the chicks are only getting bigger, and I've had to be creative in placing their feeder and waterer because they were destroying them in their chariot races around the brooder. Better news, no pink/red combs yet!

Also, maybe a coop where I augmented the plans and let my artistic side run amok wasn't such a great idea for my first go at building a structure...
What a beautiful coop! I like immediate gratification so this style never works well for us. They are so pretty though, I always admire them and wish I had the personality type to finish something like this.

I use a metal grating that has narrow slats. I use it to block of a section of the run and keep water in that section as well. The little ones can go into that section to escape the bigger ones. Once the little ones are big enough, they don't need to escape - good thing because they can't fit through the slats by then :)

I wish I could take one of them to home depot so I would know a good size hole.
