So there are 3 chicks in these pics. 1 I call yellow who I though was NH/Dorking but am now thinking is Del/Dorking

The other two are clear and smudgey their mom is my Amelia and their dad is NH I thought they were all roos because I thought that they might be SLs but now I am not so sure OK here we go

I tried to get clear head shots but they are pretty quick little boogers and Theresa is fond of photo bombing and pecking my fingers while I try to get the pics

I tried Calf Manna as a supplement in feed some years ago. I noticed adult chickens refraining from it. Nutritional yeast flakes/powder like Kal brand has an excellent supply of B vitamins and numerous amino acids. 1 tablespoon of wheat germ oil fortified with A,D,E mixed with 1 lb of feed helps the yeast adhere to feed. Birds like the taste. I do that once a week. A good vitamin-electrolyte-probiotic powder in waterers 2-3 days a week makes a difference too. I don't experience bone problems in adult birds or instances of stargazing with chicks. I refuse to use cheap feed and always will.

I toss calf mana out instead of scratch. The Chickens eat it all.

If I put it in with the layer feed, they toss out the layer to eat the calf Mana.

Calf Mana has Animal protein in it. Some say protein is protein but there is a difference. It is the lowest cost way to get the supplements and animal protein to the flock. 50 pounds is on sale at TSC for $30.00. At the recommended ratio of feed to Calf-manna, that is not too expensive.

Yes! Wait until 6 weeks and even then it may be too early.

You will know soon enough.

It's too early for me to tell on yours. I can tell on most of my breeds by 4 weeks except for the Langshans. But I factor in not only comb size but also body size, stance, leg thickness, feather & tail development, coloring, and behavior. There are always some obvious cockerels and some obvious pullets. Then there are those few that keep you guessing and don't reveal themselves until weeks later!

Never saw any animal protein listed on the ingredients for Calf Manna. I don't use GMO anymore so it's not even an option. The only animal proteins I use are no salt tuna or milk derived.
