@tommysgirl

The Konza Ranger eggs are ahead of the Pita Pintas. They have all four internally pipped and are very active in there. Do you think they spent a day under the Broody?

If so, it may explain why those four made it. There is a theory that incubating for a day and then shipping helps them survive shipping better.

Yay!!!!!!!!! I don't know but I can ask.I was worried that some of the remaining 4 had quit I remember seeing some testing of that theory going on but didn't see the results. Interesting! I really want a rooster from this hatch....watch all 4 be pullets! hahaha

Still 3 PPs?? Godiva was asking.
aMy silkies have been doing some inaverdant testing of this by tucking eggs under their wings/and hiding them when I collect. I have noticed it being good for shipped eggs.
Really we...and by "we" I mean you all with your incubators and shipping experience/expertise

should conduct this experiment.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who emailed about the Wheaten/ BCM chicks.

It is seeming they will have a very nice home to go to shortly.

There is a huge fire raging in our Napa County area, about 1 mile away from us--you may have seen it on the news.
Many of the locals have already been evacuated. It is very smoky/ hazy this morning, and there have been helicopters flying low and overhead. We have eggs in the incubator, brooders full of chicks, and juvies of all ages right now. (Working on BCM F1 stock.) Hopefully, the wind doesn't change direction, and come our way.
So glad you found them homes. So are you in Pope Valley" Scary up there. prayers are being sent your way. Did you live in that area in 85? That was a terrifying fire season too.

It must have been something like a bit of broody incubation. The first Konza egg will be out soon--One had a pip this morning.

the Pita Pintas looked like they were supposed to look on day 18 and will probably hatch on time on Friday. I bet the Konza Rangers will be hatched by then.

According to Renee and my experience of hatching one last spring They hatch strong and quickly and ready for adventures. So so happy... I bid on 10 so 4/10 is not such a bad outcome...uhoh counting my chicks before they are hatched...

Well I found one of my CLB boys perching on the edge of the box 3 times yesterday. He was just as happy as could be. He is also the one that seems to have overcome the flightiness the fastest. It was really funny to see yesterday. As I reached into the box everyone but he and the Delaware ran for the corner they actually ran up to my hand. We are starting to get there. It seems as the feathers start really coming in and they spend more time awake they get more interactive.

That's the thing that won my husband and I over w/ the Dels. Bold and curious and fun... Glad you are enjoying them. It is always good to have new converts.

When I first got my driver's license, Terrible Herbst 25¢ per gallon! I drove a HUGE Oldsmobile Cutlass and could fill my tank and get change for my $5 bill. Amazing, now I really sound like an old geezer.

On the other hand, I was earning $1.10 per hour minimum wage. So it took me fifteen minutes to earn a gallon of gas. My wages ended up far outpacing the inflation in gas, so I can't complain.

Yes, three are in the hatcher for lockdown. They will likely hatch too since they looked good when I moved them over.

I could tell that when I moved the Konzas to the hatcher. they were all internally pipped and moving a bunch in the air cells.

That is a good sign since the air cells were messed up a bit from shipping. You will have chicks and I bet there will be at least one Cockerel that will hatch.

Just had to show what a cutie this one is.
His egg is darker in person.
Hopefully all will go smoothly.

Yes, Back side of Angwin/ PV/ Lake Berrysessa are all at risk now. The rural, sprawling hills are full of dry spring growth. The wind just shifted, and flooded us in smoke, and the air quality is bad. There's been no passing vehicles. Eerie quiet- we're preparing, just in case.

Wasn't around here in '85, but 98' had a bad fire just across the street that we were holding our breaths over. Seems the guy was using his lawn mower and hit a rock which sparked and he panicked.

FBC Marans are very cute as chicks.

I hope the fire is out soon. A man visiting his son, I think in Montanna, lit the burn barrel on a non burn day morning. He went into the cabin to watch Football and after some time noticed that there was too much smoke. He did the right thing and called 911.

Several months later he was sent a bill for over a million dollars.

Thanks Ronott1.

Don't know what happened to the neighbor, but you hear stories like this. These rural areas only have their volunteer Fire Dept., and Caltrans, so any and everything has to be brought in.

The air is so cloudy now, you can no longer make out that mountain I showed earlier. Haven't heard the helicopters for awhile now, so hopefully they have the fire under control.

Eep! Today is day 20 and I have one egg externally pipped, and two more eggs are moving. This is so exciting...I'm going to have my nose glued to the incubator for the rest of the next two days. One of the wiggling eggs is a Trader Joe's eggs so that's very exciting, considering the fact that 0 out of 4 developing hatched last time. I'm getting my hopes up. Maybe I shouldn't, but I can't help it!
Temp is at 99.5 and humidity has stabilized at 66%
14 out of 18 EE eggs made it to lockdown. If they all hatch that's a ~78% hatch rate for them! And 13 out of 21 Trader Joe's eggs made it to lockdown, if they all hatch that will be a ~62% hatch rate! That's amazing for old store-bought eggs. I don't expect them all to hatch, though, just because of how it went last time.
I heard peeping when I was looking in the incubator, and my dog confirmed what I was thinking: she heard the peeping and immediately looked directly at the incubator and started herding it. The muffled peeping was coming from an egg!

I think the people I've talked to were right - the excitement of hatching never wears off, does it?
One question. There is a little red plug in the top of the incubator(Genesis 1588), I left it in last hatch and everything went fine. Should I take it out, though? What's it for?

Take out the plug.

It is used for humidity control and high altitude adjustments. It usually does not matter, but it can cause some chicks to suffocate. High humidity at hatch temperatures will lower the oxygen level. It can be a fine balance so it is best to have as much ventilation as possible.
