And it's been almost 24 hours with no poopy butt!! Thank you chickee and Kathy, Ron and everyone else for the great info! And I'm especially grateful to not be on a thread where I would have been told to do the dark box and no water treatment, lol!
On another note: my daughter has went off to college. So her room is now my brooder room and fodder room. She wasn't happy when she came home but not surprised at all either ;)

Not many eggs today when I went to collect them. I'll give them a break since we got up to 107° today. They are handling it pretty well, even the silly hens sitting in boxes hoping for eggs to hatch.

Well f m l. We had another fox attavk in broad daylight. Appearently my top in silkie shed was not fox proof.

I am missing 4 hens . 4 hens are in shock and can move their necks but heads are flooping so may have fractures. All roosters made it.

This weekend I will get rid of the run in silkie shed and give it a door in the floor and a mini run in the area under the shed . Clearly I can't make the run safe.

I am letting the floppy headed ones sleep for now and am going to give them asprin and cocunut water drip ( electrolytes) in a few hours. They are passed out and go into a panic when touched.

I think 2 will be ok and 2 are questionable. My last splash hen neck is still floppy and phyllis had blood out of her mouth so likely internal bleeding.

Mario caught one fox but the missing hens indicate it was more then 1 . Thats 2 foxes in 2 weeks. Im going to make sure all water is dumped at night im wondering if they are coming for the duck pond and staying for the chickens....

What misting system do you have? We strung some tubing but the ground was so drenched and nasty!

Same one. That is why I have it outside of the chick and bantam runs. Now, I do have one strung over the big chicken yard as high as I can get it. Still wets the ground but it isn't as muddy when it is high up.

That is great! So glad to hear the chick is better!

I usually have my incubators, brooders and sick chickens in the house. As soon as someone moves out the chickens move in! Welcome to the club

I was just out putting my Silkies to bed, so it really hits home! So defenseless! Hope you can set up a safe place for them! Darn predators!

Auuuugh. My broody had a dozen eggs. A few days ago, three were pecked open and the chicks inside killed. I blamed myself for not removing her from all the other hens before hatch, and separated her off. Then another egg was broken open and the chick killed two days after they were separated. I was confused, thought maybe she'd clumsily damaged it and been an opportunistic feeder, or heard the first chick start peeping and freaked out because she was inexperienced. I left the eggs with her. Most hatched over last night, she had two left pipped. I go out to check on the pips just now, and a **** scrub jay is in with her, pecking at a pipped egg! There is a bit of blood but I left the egg under her and will keep a close eye on it and if needed put some Blu Kote or antibiotic cream on any wounds when it hatches. Then I need to find some way to wring a little blue neck!
I hate scrub jays. They will eat anything they can kill and it's usually chicks...chicken or otherwise. They used to raid all the robin and sparrow nests around here and they birds no longer nest here...

Mine seem to be off laying too. Only got 2 eggs today. 2 of my 3 broody hens are in the "Breaking Broody" pen, mad as He**. The other one will get chicks. I was hoping it would be from the BLRW eggs, but today was the due date. Not one developed at all. I don't know if is was the shipping or fertility, but I would have expected a few to at least start to develop if it was just shipping issues. I may be getting a few CCL chicks for her if the person hatching them gets any pullets.

I am so sorry shantih. That is so horrible! I don't even know the words to say. I know you had great plans for those birds, and it's frustrating. Sending hugs and prayers for you
