Time to fall back on people I trust. After a mass of phone calls I was told that the pigeon we lost might have had cocci. Anyone out there know if dosage would be different for pigeons and if it would hurt new chicks? We have a couple of eggs from the other pair due to hatch soon and I would hate to harm them with corid. I was told I should treat all the birds even though they are kept separate.

I don't know if corid will work on pidgon s it does not on bobwhites.

I was able to contact a long time racing pigeon person and his guess was cocci or paratyphoid as COD on the hen. He said corid would work if it were cocci, he will call me tomorrow when he gets back from Fresno about medication for paratyphoid. I didn't think to ask about the babies getting corid though. So far no signs in any of the other birds but if it's not going to harm them, I may as well.

I don't know but am sorry for your loss. I hope someone who knows...like Kathy will be on soon to advise you

Processed 6 cockerels today. 3 Birchen Marans 2 Red Star and a NH/Dorking. definite difference in the heft of the birds. The Red Stars were quite a bit lighter. I did the dispatching on two of them. It's the first time I have done that.

I have been processing them with a colleague who has always had birds ready to go at the same time and he has always done the killing but I know I can't count on that so I decided I would do it soup to nuts today so that I would be ready to do the whole thing on my own. I am glad I did it but I am not looking forward to 5 weeks from now when I have to do it again.

On the bright side they have a laying flock with EEs and cuckoo marans and they wanted one of my birchen boys for them so he got a pardon.

Corid can be used in pigeons.

@OR4-hmom , Did a quick search and treatment for paratyphoid in pigeons looks like it might be Baytril.

Disclaimer: Didn't spend much time looking and I know nothing except for what I just read.

@OR4-hmom Forgot... found this the other day.

Disclaimer: Saved it for basic drug info in it and have no idea how valid it is for pigeons.

Processing!

I do not like doing 6 at once by myself. 3 is comfortable. I was going to process today but am waiting until next week to let them get a bit bigger. It is a race between starting to crow and processing. These will be roasting size- Two Pita Pintas and one Partridge Penedesenca.

my upcoming batch will be 4 NH over Amelia boys. They sure are good looking. Hard to tell in the picture but they are red cuckoo. This is them almost 2 weeks ago still clinging tight to the apron strings at 12 weeks.

Vicki, I don't remember, what part of Nor Cal are you in? Somewhere between Sac/Redding right? How much would you want for 50 eggs?
I am in Paradise, so about 1/2 way between Redding and Sac. Once I get my new pen built, mine will be on lights. I hope I will be able to get that many for you within a few days by the time you are reasy for them. I should hopefully have about 15-20 laying by then so it should not be a problem.

Quote: Congrats on moving to the next step on processing. It is never something I look forward to, but smeties you can't wait for someone else to do it for you. It is good to know you can do the whole thing when you need to.
