Would any one be interested in 4-month-old orpington cockerels? Black split to chocolate. I'm asking $5 each. I have 3 total. They are Papa's Poultry / PapaBrooder / Jeff McCormick's stock. Big, heavy birds that are sweet & tame. PM me if interested. I am in Fairfield (1/2 way between SF & Sac). I will have a couple of hens available in a month or so too.

Fairfield? I'm kinda glad I couldn't talk my husband into driving an hour to go do the Jelly Belly tour (we're visiting family in Sacramento, and my husband's going to be helping preach at a revival in Rio Linda this weekend), because I would be kicking myself for missing a chance to meet up!

Grumpy birds up this way. High winds and temps only in the upper 30's. They are saying 19° tonight. Yeah, more frozen waterers tomorrow.

I think sometimes we are our own worst critics.  A couple of my welsummer pullets decided to molt, so I'm hoping they are done in time.

Whether mine are good enough remains to be seen, I'm not showing to win -  I want the input from the judges.  I'm aware of certain issues in my flocks, but I'm sure there is something I'm not seeing.  Both of my breeds are rare, so there aren't many of them shown.

we can all get critical of our birds. This close to the show nothing looks show worthy here.

I need the recipe for white wash,I just treated the birds for mites now I need to treat the Coop. Thanks Mike

I used a simple white wash recipe on the inside of my coop. It was already painted so we scrubbed it down and hosed it off first then "painted" all the surfaces with the hydrated lime white wash solution. It is overdue for another deep cleaning and white wash. I'll probably wait until spring and warmer weather. I think that Candy recently used a white wash recipe with borax in it, too.


Recipe:
1 gallon water
1 lb. salt or 2 cups
5 lbs. hydrated lime
Mix good in a pail.

My coop arrives this weekend (yea! finally!!!). Is this something I should proactively apply to help prevent mites? Seems like getting all this stuff done before I put the birds in would be a good idea, but I don't want to go nuts doing stuff that's unnecessary.

Of course............I just went out to fill feeders and my welsummer cockerel that I want to show hooked the back of his comb on the fencing and is bleeding.

Hopefully he will heal okay.

I hope it heals completely. One of my Dels cut her comb on the way to the Expo show. She still placed the best out of four. I know that is a much smaller show than this one, but maybe a small injury doesn't mean that they can't be shown, if they are of good quality.
