Thought I'd share an update - looks like my injured chick is going to make a full recovery :celebrate

Well, first storm since the chooks went out into the coop is rolling in. They're clearly on edge. When one gets flighty and bolts into the coop/run, they all follow. Then they stand around looking confused before trooping back out into the yard.

I also noticed that Phoebe has moved up in the hierarchy. She now trumps mean girl Babs. She totally pushed Babs aside for mealworms this morning and Babs submitted.

anyone know anyone with nankins?

Nankin Club of America/Facebook -- but then it looks like you already posted on there! GL! The little buggers are worth saving. My DH spoke w/someone on the internet last week who had them but he doesn't remember who it was -- but at least Nankins have GOT to be here in the States somewhere! I know the Oregon Zoo is raising them to save the breed. Who knows -- Maybe you can drive over the State border into Oregon and pick 'em up in person if the Zoo is selling chicks. Just a thought.

Hope you all are weathering the storm well.
I put a small tarp over one of my smaller coops just to make sure it's water and wind proof.
Apparently everyone thought it was the devil because they are sitting out side in the howling wind.
I brought over a board to offer more wind protection, that also is seen as a scary monster.
And 3 broodies, 1 of which wasn't eating at all in in a broody breaker pen.
The others I don't have any storm proof pens to put them in for now.
I don't think there is an irritated emoticon on here, but there needs to be.

Crazy chooks! My broody in her "suite" is the only one not having to deal with this weather! Hoping for pips tonight! Raining hard with pretty good gusts up here in Sonoma County right now. Got soaking wet checking on birds, then bailing out hubby when the truck's fuel pump went out in town.
Just one of those days.
Frustrated/irritated emoticons for me, too!
