It wouldn't be sex linked unless it was the other way around. Blue over cuckoo would create blue girls and barred boys and yes the egg would be more olive but as I understand it the Dark egg layer over the Blue would tend to give the best olive color.
Oh goody!
I need to start checking fertility of my ArkBlue & Cream Legbar eggs now that I have a French Black Copper Maran roo.
I'll love to hatch me some girls that will lay dark olive eggs!!
Yay!

anyone know any good hatcheries? (not cackle or murray)
I don't want to be hurtful, but with all your losses recently I really think it would be wise to send a few birds off to Davis before investing in more. It would be terrible if you were to lose all the new ones as well.

Yeah i have some juvies and will have chicks later.
so much eat..... not as much as the marans however. .

I had a Cuckoo Marans that was the laziest forager of any breed I've ever had. She would walk beside a gentle breed and then steal their forage. She was just too dam* lazy to do any work herself yet she ate like a pig at the feeder -- and for all that feed we were lucky to get 2 eggs/week maybe 3 from her of less than stellar size or color. When she viciously attacked one of the gentle breeds she was instantly re-homed. Guess Marans are ok with their own breed flock or with other large dual purpose breeds but I'll never have one again simply because they are so lazy, nippy, and sneaky. My friend had a similar experience with her BCM and also was re-homed.

My Marans flock contains my Dominiques. They did not allow this behavior to develop. Marans may be bossy and lazy, but nobody tells Dominiques what to do.

How exciting, Chickee : ) you will have rainbow of babies : ) I remember last year today, your Ameraucana chicks were hatching, and I was so excited because some were going to be mine. Well, today is their birthday, so for celebration everybody received the first watermelon of the season. I was happy to see that Costco is already selling them. They are now walking around with wet, sticky but smiling faces. I am looking forward to the photos of your chicks..

This last photo is how they looked on the day I picked them up from you. I love these gentle, sweet birds.

Beautiful girls!
And now, my pics...

I don't have any pics of my new girls yet--I'll take some tomorrow.
Augh the pigeons! I want! Beautiful duck, I love the breed.

the black duck is mine. (Black East Indie).

I didn't know (or remember, one or the other) there being a Black Wast Indie breeder here. Gorgeous!

Care to adopt 3?
I have a grey/white roller (male) & blue/white owl pigeon (hen) that I rescued from the feed store.
I didn't pull eggs fast enough & they had a really pretty baby last June, a male.
I need more recent photos before I can post or send any.

They used to fly free in my coop but once they started to nest, they started picking fights with the chickens (defending their nest) & kept loosing - badly.
The male had his neck ripped open - twice. I came in to the hen house to find him literally dripping blood.
He's fine now but I thought for sure I was going to lose him the 2nd time.
They're in their own smaller cage now but I'd love them to have a big flight again.

@SpringPeeper
i think it was something they ate or idk but since the last one died and i bleached and sprayed out the coop they are fine. also the serama chicks were from cold so they werent related and the others idk maybe also cold? they were all bantam

I'd love to see pictures. I've had an old dog run I've been trying to convince my husband to convert into a pigeon aviary. Was the younger male hand raised or did they raise it, out of curiosity?

The younger male was raised by the parents. I have handled him as much as I could but he is still somewhat of a wild man.
He calms down quickly when you hold him but would still prefer not to be held.
He has the prettiest white-laced blue bum feathers.

I'll get some pics in the next couple of days.
I rescued them because they were sooo pretty & I was hoping they'd tame up some. I couldn't bear them being dog training tools or snake/falcon food.
The daddy bird is more tolerant but momma bird is a wild thing.
I love their coos & growls & courting behaviors. A mated pair is so fun to watch. These 2 are sooo in love with one another - they feed each other.
Thank goodness I have fake eggs for them to set or I'd have squeakers every month!

OK, I'll keep an eye out for them. Sociable ones are fun, but I don't mind having a small pigeon aviary where they just get to be pigeons and let me watch, too. I can spend waaaaay too much time watching feral pigeons when I am trying to destress at work.

He is just gorgeous. I'd love to own Black East Indies someday.

Great pictures!!!   Thank you so much for posting them  I really love the rooster in the second picture f the first group.  He is very handsome!

Is the New Hampshire rooster yours, too? The photo didn't do him justice at all.

I really should've said hi... I saw you over by the Ko Shamos and then later by the sale cages, but you were talking to people both times, and I'm not great at starting conversations anyway... If you saw me, I was the one in the pink and purple tie-dye, cuddling the Orloff while my husband got the box from the van ;-)
