California - Northern

Not yet. Last years cockerel is only beginning to feel his hormones so, no matter----Yet. The Postal Service messed up my chick delivery and took 5 days instead of the guaranteed 2 getting them here from Boise. Imagine sending them through Oakland instead of to Sac! Then sitting in Oakland for 36 hours. A deadly error. The breeder is wonderful though sad at the outcome as am I.

This is the K taken last month .

The blrs and the little blue pullet are all laying and father and son are doing their job, LOL at least Sonny is getting in an occasionally successful sneak attack. Like father like son. -

Your Silkies and GCM eggs look wonderful.

OMG!! That is terrible about the chicks!!!! So sorry to hear that!! Is the post office paying for them? So scary to have chicks sent through the mail these days!!

Your rooster is looking fabulous!!! Wish the girls were laying. I would stick some of their eggs in with the eggs that are going in the incubator today.

They should pay the $50.00 insurance amount for not shipping on time.

I think they will pay $100. The shipper put in the claim for payment to defray expenses on a second shipment. We'll be shipping to a friends address in West Sac this time hoping for a better results. I'm willing to drive. In fact I would have driven to Oakland. Honest but it will be another month at least to replace these poor chicks.

I completely agree with Chet in AZ's opinion and sympathize completely about never mailing his Australorps ever again. The GV post office and the Express Supervisor who called couldn't have been nicer or more sympathetic. Not that it does a lot of good for the dozen dead babies. :hit

I'm trying to figure out a trip to Arizona. Maybe when my friend has her puppies?

Yes, I have been told to suck it up and drive there to pick up some chicks--or a breeding group.

It would be the farthest I have gone for chickens. I also have been considering a trip to Colorado to get chicks from Whiting Farms.

Are you going fishing?

Silkie chicks looking for a new home. :D
So pretty!
My feed store will order them if i ask them to & prepay for them. He's had trouble in the past of people ask for stuff then flaking out. If you can't find a local breeder, it's an alternative for you. I'd be fine being a middle man. :-)
I've heard guineas can harass chickens. What if they're raised together? Will a chicken hen raise them well? I've always wanted some
