Okay,................. talked at the Modesto Show last Sunday & set a Chicken Fest party date for May 3rd a Sunday at 11 a.m. Jules @fortyfivefarm & Dyann @Chooklet & I @sewandgrow made a list of to dos. I think Jules is working on a post about it. Set the date aside for a ride to Turlock again for many of you & welcome to the new Chicken Lovin' friends too.

My wife and I would love to come! Please let me know when you have something I can help with in preparation! Kern

Thank you. ..............It is amazing how so many pitch in to help. As we often say around here "it takes a village"........... We have made a master list of needed supplies & I will provide the main course (chicken of course). I think when they build a post they will have a sign up area for what all is needed. I have accumulated almost all the furnishings. We may have to ask to borrow a couple of pop up covers for the food area. The 30 foot one I bought last year got broken in the wind. Slowly it will come together. I like RSVPs just so I know how much of the chicken dish I need to make to have for everyone. It is such fun...................a little differently planned this year concerning the health scare but still a lot going on.
Just keep a watch out for more info................................

YEAH!!!!! Running to put the date on my calendar!

sooooooooo glad you are able to come but I thought you were there when we originally picked a tentative date. You & your family are key players & so helpful. I always look forward to seeing you. I think Jules asked about a demo table, but not actual talks like last year. So much going on the speakers don't get the audience they deserve. I missed the introductions we did before last year so plan to do that again. The party starts at 11 & I think the introduction round starts at 1:30. It is so nice to get to know everyone & where they are from & what birds they raise We need a master list.

I look forward to hearing more details! I'm willing to help in whatever way I can!

I am overrun this year with broody Langshan! They are huge girls and determined sitters! I am getting ready to take a group of them to the farm to put them in a breeding pen with one of the cockerels or my rooster Shang. But everyday, it seems llike another one goes broody! Crazy girls! I've only been giving them a few eggs because they are all first timers. I have 1 with 3 chicks that are less than 2 weeks old and she is constantly leaving them to fend for themselves. Fortunately, my flock is used to having chicks running around so they let them be.
I have two hens that go broody in my main pen. One hen is a lousy mother and leaves her chicks to fend for themselves too; I gave her away to a friend. The other hen, is only 1 year old and has great instincts in mothering, every chick she has she brings up with doting love.

My favorite broody hen from last year decided to go broody! She raised 2 or 3 groups of chicks last year and was an excellent mother. Trinket is a little Cream Legbar mix who lays a green egg. I'm going to give her Pita Pinta eggs this year as soon as I can figure out where to put her. It's a broody epidemic around here!

Just get eggs from chooklit, she calls them cochinbators.

every time I see here there are like 5 girls sitting
Cochinbators!!! Sooo True!

Quoted wrong post but it's a Broody Epidemic at my place also! I've got 3 Cochinbators (I Love This) going right now; Twin #1 (a first-timer) on bantam eggs (Day 6), "Storm" (silkie/cochin whos last brood is just 7 weeks old) on 4 Orp eggs I pulled from the bator after she joined my 1st broody (now on Day 12); and now I have another Cochin "Jasmin" (another 1st timer) who has decided to join the fun...just not sure what to give her since I already have 19 bantam chicks from the end of January I'm going to need to find homes for and the eggs in my bator are 9 days or less from hatching...
