California - Northern

I don't think this frizzled showgirl will ever have a non-awkward stage. :)

Still hoping Igor's a pullet.
I mistook Igor for a gargoyle while scrolling through. I have my fingers crossed for "No crowing"

Ok this is my first summer with chickens. Should I get them a mister?

It depends on what breeds you have and where you keep them. If it is very hot then a mister will help a lot in California.

They do not do that much good in humid places or on humid hot days. Lots of water and shade will work for most breeds.

Need ID help between 2 month Oliver Eggers and Marans I got from @chrissyr . Some of the Ro's(I'm thinking Ro) have those tussel cheeks and obviously have Americana in them. But only on those that look like Ro's. Do the pullets cheek tussels develop later than the Ro's on the Oliver Eggers?

The beards and muffs on crosses are not sex linked. Pea comb is associated with the blue egg shell gene with araucana crosses. Cream legbars do not have that association.

If they are Marans x EE then you will need to go by the wattles. Pea combs are usually single for pullets and three rows for cockerels but the cross will make a combination comb so it is harder to tell by the comb.

Post pictures!

You can usually get a single mister that connects to a garden hose and sits on the ground. It helps a lot on very hot days. The temperature under the mist goes down about 20 degrees so 105 goes to 85.

all of my olive eggers have had the beard muffs to some extent. These are 2nd generation and I'm almost positive mostly do too.
2nd generation oe's will have either peacomb or straight combed. But even the straight combed should have some beard muffs. You can send me pics and I'll look at them for you as well

What to get ... anyone have any advice on which of these chicks to get for my broody (what will be easy to unload as pullets, since I don't have room for any more birds). This is what Rivertown has coming in on the 19th. Or does anyone have anything better hatching at the end of the month that I can buy a few of? I only want to give her 2-3 chicks. And yes, I assume the "Ameraucana" are Easter Eggers.

I will be setting 8 or so Pita Pinta eggs today or tomorrow.
