California - Northern

Today was not a good afternoon.

I discovered that I lost one of my favorite chicken earrings some time during the day.
I found my favorite sunglasses had broken in a place that can't be fixed.

To top it all off - I found Jean-Luc, my beautiful black copper marans roo, had passed away today.

I thought he had been doing better with more protein & vitamins.

I'll miss him but I know he is happy on the other side of the rainbow bridge with lots of company.
I'll be making another trip to Davis - I need answers.

Sorry for your loss! My wife Gayle was just talking about him this weekend. Kern

It was very hot!

Tomorrow we go back into the mid 90s in Woodland. Today was 104.
Yes I was very concerned for my birds today. I had my husband set up our mister but I need to buy a better system. The birds were very stressed. I hope there will be no lasting effect from the extreme heat. What ways do you use to help your birds cool down?

I have three orbit mister lines:

I have the calcium filter and the drain ends too. They are connected to an auto timer on the water faucet.

Heat wasn't so bad for my birds, as they have a lot of built in shade, but the unshaded front deck decimated a nice barrel of nasturtiums, and they're all shriveled and wilted now.

Need ID help between 2 month Oliver Eggers and Marans I got from @chrissyr . Some of the Ro's(I'm thinking Ro) have those tussel cheeks and obviously have Americana in them. But only on those that look like Ro's. Do the pullets cheek tussels develop later than the Ro's on the Oliver Eggers?

I have some olive eggers that look like black copper marans hen (no fuzzy face) Lay a beautiful olive egg. I of them even has feathers on her legs. I CAGED MY HENS TO SEE WHO LAYS WHAT egg than put a colored band on their leg so I know who does what..
