Well I brought my sick hen to the vet. Her crop is swollen and they gave her some medicine to stimulate digestion. They also did a blood test and said she is anemic. They don't seem to think she will make it; they think she might have some kind of kidney problem cause she keeps drinking lots of water and not eating much. She has perked up quite a bit after getting the medicine though, so we'll see what happens.

She is young, one of the year old hens I got from @PetRock. Hopefully she pulls through.
Keep up doing what you are doing for her.

Consider it hospice care--but she may make it too.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry that she is sick! I hope that she pulls through!

i have found that with my BCM...i have had two and they are not my favorites. One of them i named Margaret Thatcher....she had to be rehomed where she does quite well in a very large group. My present one is not mean to everyone she just does NOT like to be handled. I have a welsummer who is shy and also just fine with everyone.

So...I just want to put this out there...I'm new, I'm in Sacramento, and I plan on pestering EVERYBODY so I can take care of my girls and feed my kiddos good eggs. Cheers!

Heya! You're in my neck of the woods! Welcome!

No idea where they were. My husband came outside and they were back! Hopefully this hiding stops before they start laying again!
It was well over 100 degrees yesterday--It is normal for them to hide out when it gets that hot.

Accuweather bumped the temps up to 106 for today and tomorrow so they will likely hide out again.

I have fans and misters that I use on my pets on any day that is over 90 degrees. I have two pens and one pen gets released from prison every other day. The ones that stay incarcerated get the misters and fans and the released birds enjoy the shade and dampness under about 25 stone fruit trees and many citrus trees and grapes. It is supposed to be around 106 here today also. Kern

I have two strings of mist lines set up. They are running from 3 to 6 today. I need to check on the temps for tomorrow and adjust the time if necessary.

It is working well and I am so happy that we are about out of the heat for this year!
