I have a newly acquired volunteer cat in my yard. She's just barely not a kitten anymore (still a small juvenile) and though skittish with me, seems to have come to a détente with the chooks. Everyone ignores one another and she suns herself in the dog-free terrace area while the chooks roam around. At least now I know where the pigeon bodies keep coming from! I thought the chickens had taken up hunting for extra protein, LOL! Ordered her a winter shelter today online. Next up is trapping her and having her spayed (and yes, since she's a calico, I'm certain it's a "she"). A yard/barn cat is totally ok with me though. Haven't seen a rat in weeks!

Don't you love it when you get a nice barn cat!

We just gained one also but only at night.

My chicks are now 8 week old, mama has begun to start laying eggs again. i need to build them a bigger nesting box, they cant all fit and its fun to see them try

Hey Ron what's the chance of eggs at day 18 surviving a temp of 110 for several hours (maybe 3-4) these are LF and serama eggs
The Large fowl egg have a better chance--It takes longer for the eggs to heat.

There is a good chance that they are fine though.

oh shoot! I forgot about plants! We planted an orange tree this year , I'll need to cover those. Thank you!
How's your girl doing ? (I'm assuming she turned out to be a girl)
No problem! I was covering mine up with a tarp I bought that's 12' x 12' & I still need to get another. I have small sheets out there wrapping the maples right now & they look like big guys that just got out of the shower & are trying to cover themselves with this little towel.

I wish it turned out to be a she! My baby ended up being a he & an aggressive he at that. River was fine until he got older & became extremely aggressive to everyone in the house, stalking & biting. I tried to keep him happy but them he started biting me. He was smart & fast, always went for the eyes. I had a bruised eye when he got me good, it was a good thing I was wearing glasses. I love him so much but I had to rehome him to a place with many ducks & geese. He went to an Animal Rental ranch in SoCal about a month ago. I email them about him & I am planning a vacay to go visit my big boy. Breaks my heart that I couldn't keep him with me

I know you'd all understand & appreciate.
I have an early bird!
700

The little one is a day early
There 10 more eggs to go & 2 are already pipped.
Mama is a smooth-feathered showgirl.
She's setting eggs that are from a friend.
They are OEGB, daddy is a crele/fawn color cross & mama is a red pyle/splash color-cross.
I can't wait to see these peepers feather out. ♡
