Abandoned and abused roosterd need help..

Yikes... I've heard about those. I assumed they were escaped gamefowl that had feralized. (Games can do pretty well on their own, as seen in places like Hawaii and Florida)... but domestic breeds are something else entirely. Unfortunate. Can Animal Control do anything about this?

I don't think so. This was posted on my facebook. It's 4 hours from where we live so I don't know it personally. If we lived closer I would take some though.. :(

Sharing a photo of our Black Silkie taking a shower under our portable Brite Tap iced water jug. She was broody when the heatwave started but once we moved the jug under the shady coop patio roof she started tapping the valves and showering herself and she snapped out of her broodiness. She works the cold water into her skin on her breast, head, and back. Never had a showering hen before her!

That picture is so funny. She is looking down at her feet like geez this heat lmao.. gotta love it.. :p

I also use sand and found that wet sand smells a lot. From reading the forum, I learned to mix Sweet PDZ into the sand. It is sold as Horse Stall Freshener and is known as zeolite. I have tried both powder and granules forms. I prefer the granules as the powder would cakeup in to white clumps. Try mixing the granules into the sand in the areas of your run where moisture and rain accumulate. I also use in the henhouse sand underneath the roosting poles.

Keeping a sand run clean requires a lot of strainers, colanders, litter scoops will become your most necessary tool. I found a long handled litter scoop at Petsmart for $19.00. All metal and it really saves my back from bending over. I could not locate it on line at Petsmart but did find it on a website: http://www.catsrule.com/theperfectlitterscoop-1-1.aspx for around $16.00

I also have a favorite tool: a coarse mesh fry basket/ colander that I found at Home Goods, but have had no luck finding it anywhere else.

My large sand run is covered but on hot days I place in large fan at one end to create a breeze. I also wet down the sand on really hot days.

Well defiantly post pictures when they hatch! I have been wanting ayam cemanis for awhile now. Maybe once i get rid of my extra roosters ill be able to get some of them! Chicken math is taking over:duc
