California - Northern

Kind of limited on the Pita choices though. And my blue egg laying project. I haven't got a single  Blue egg layer yet. I set a bunch of CLB eggs but none were fertile. The one Legbar EE cross I got is male. I have a white layer in with the Legbar boy too but she has spent too much time broody and currently isnt laying. (Decided to go fake broody about a week ago)

Hoping for September hatching
Ark Blues, Barred Hollands if I can find them and Pitas of course.

I just set a bunch of different cuckoo orps. Those will be the last for this season for me. We purchased a bunch of olive eggers eggs so we could improve our egg basket and got all roosters except the 2 hens. It always seems to work out that way.

Who is the breeder? My choc orp cockerel is still a very non aggressive to people but he is breeding the heck out of my hens. I have been told to keep him in his own cage a few days a week. It seems a little cruel but he gashes a split in my favorelle skin last week. I need to do something with him.

Yikes. I would put him in a bachelor pen or something. I won't let any stay if they are hurting the hens. The breeder isn't local. I met her on ebay after purchasing some ayam cemani and jubilee eggs. She has been so helpful and friendly. I can't say I've met anyone else on ebay as kind. She isn't local but I would buy eggs from her before someone else for sure..

Yeah that was what my wellies were supposed to be for. But 2 died and the third was a boy.

It seems like I just can't get rid of all the parasites this year.

First time ever seeing and dealing with sticktight fleas, and I need some help. How should I go about getting rid of them? I've only seen 1 so far, but I'm sure there are more.

have you tried spinosad? Elektor can be used as a systemic--kills bugs that are sucking blood on the host.

Hello everyone - first timer here with hens - my year old Ameracauna flew over to me when she saw me holding her "sister" - thinking that maybe she was a tad jealous . That's when I noticed some crust have formed on her little "beard" but that's not what concerned me - which by the way my Bertha let me clean the crust off her beard. She seemed to enjoy it. Her bottom - not her vent, I noticed a lot of feathers with very hard crusty poop stuck on about 15-20 feathers ranging in size. it took almost an hour wetting her bottom with warm water and using very mild soap to get rid of the crusty poop - we dried her completely before we put her back in the pen. We didn't see any worms or anything that would resemble one. My question is - is this a normal occurrence ? She was a trooper through it all . Any thoughts or advice? Thank you in advance.

We have this with one of our ameraucana/easter egger hens. We got her this way and she seems to have conic diarrhea. None of the other hens have it so we thought maybe a chicken form of ibs or the heat... I'd love to hear what others think..

He isn't doing it on purpose but he is a very prolific breeder.
Guess he needs his own pen.

Gail Damerow says sulphur works for sticktight fleas. In the dustbath or in their feed at 1 1/2 to 2 oz per 50 lbs of feed. Unlike DE sulphur has a residual effect and even is transferred to chickens who don't use the dustbath from the ones that do.
