California - Northern

2 of the 5 chicks are doing poorly. I thought for sure one of them was going to die a few hours ago; it was just laying there breathing heavily. But now it just droops like the other one.

I checked all of them today and a few have decent sized clumps of mites clustered by their beak or eyes. Sometimes they squeak and shake their head like something painful is in their eye.

How quickly can a chick become anemic?

Hey everyone. Just wanted to say I am currently seeking a breeder or show quality Black or Blue (not Splash) Silkie cockerel/cock and a breeder or show quality Black or Blue (not Splash) Bantam Sumatra pullet/hen.

I am sorry to hear that!

Try applying the spinosad with a q tip directly to the mites and then get them under a heat lamp in a brooder. Give them vitamins, scrambled eggs and a taste of plain yogurt.

From what I have seen posted, chicks can go fast from mites. Northern fowl mites will even kill adult chickens. They are the bad mites.

I think we have decided to do a silkie cockerel instead. He really wants a Serama but we don't have any others and I'm not sure how we could integrate unless from a chick. We already have silkies so it will just be easier for this year.

no problem, we just posted him on Facebook!

Oh no! I hope you get the mites killed off soon, poor chicks. Maybe a bath might help also? Not sure if they are old enough for one.

If I were you I would try some nutridrench and scrambled eggs. It should help. A little Gatorade too. After that a quick bath. Make sure the water is warm enough. Then you can do a blow dry. I haven't dealt with mites bit have dealt with blood loss. The nutridrench will help. Just feed them about 2 drops from your finger. Good luck. :)

I hope so too! He is super nice, I just don't have the room for him, plus I am slowly getting rid of most of my seramas
