You are seeing and hearing internal pipping. It is a day or two from the external pip--little hole in the shell. The chick will hatch up to a day after the external pip.

You will have chicks in 2 to 3 days. Keep humidity at about 65% and do not open the incubator unless you have to.

Sometimes the chirping is very quiet and some incubators are very loud so you do not always hear the chirping.

Same answer for the rocking though--Chick is getting ready to hatch when you see that. Stay out of the incubator unless you need to fix humidity or a problem.

I agree that these look exactly like my ladies from Whole Foods. Ours were hatched by @KernH . We have done some research and found they are likely a mix of White Plymouth and Leghorn.
Ours are 21 months old and started lay at 4 1/2 months. They have rarely missed a day since. They lay a tan to cream colored XL to Jumbo egg. We would love to add a few more to our flock, but we haven't been able to find any locally. Where did you get yours?

I bought those eggs from a grocery store in Oakland I think called Farmer Joe's. They were in the refrigerated egg department. Everyone that got those chicks says they are the best layers. Kern

Thanks Kern, they are the best! I've heard that Trader Joe's eggs are also outstanding layers.
