California - Northern

Still no peep. Nor did it break the air sack yet.
It is time to be patient--It takes time.

It is very important that you do not play with the eggs now. As a reminder, The last three days of incubation, when the humidity is raised, is called lockdown. The more the incubator is opened during lockdown, the lower the hatch rate will be.

I took some pictures this morning of the hens hatched from store eggs.

The three on the left are from January's hatch. The two in front are bigger and likely from Whole Foods eggs. The one in the back is likely a TJ's hen. The other three are partridge Penedesenca hens

This girl is doing what they do very well...laying an egg. Three of them laid in that spot yesterday. There is a nice roll our nest box in the hutch just above her...Silly chicken!

This one has a comb that flops to the side--very nice leghorn comb. She is looking for treats of course--ignoring the cracked wheat that the ones in the top photo are eating--she suspects that I might have something better and is holding out!

Looking at the Brinsea Mini Advance incubator. Has anyone used it? I've heard good and bad things about the incubator and Brinsea's customer service.

My first incubator was a Mini Advance. Still have it and still love it. I've also got a Mini Eco and a very old Octagon DX that was a thrift store find and still gives me 70%+/- hatch rates. Couldn't have enough positive things to say about the brand, and the Mini Advance is still my favorite of all my incubators.

Aren't they just great birds! When people see pics of our bird they are mostly intrigued with the more colorful birds, and of course the Silkies, and Polish. Bill and I know who the actual MVPs are. We plan to pick up eggs at Tader Joe's in the spring.

Hey guys. I'm looking for a Crele orpington hen, an isobel hen or a white bantam cochin rooster. If any available let me know thanks..
