Going to try and hatch some eggs from my own hens! I have never done that before. Let's see if the rooster was doing his job. The dad was a jubilee orpington. The green eggs come from my chocolate EE, the brown ones I think are from a jubilee orpington pullet. They could also be from a black orpington hen or a splash bantam orpington though. I'll be interested to see what hatches!

What a nice place to live!
It is a nice place to live , but call me crazy, I'm seriously considering moving down your way when my youngest graduates high school and leaves for college. I'm a single mom and have been dating a sweet man for the past four years. We both put our kids first and this is why we still don't live together. 8 months ago, he moved to Sac for a job opportunity that would have been a shame to let go. So the current plan is, if we still like each other in two years, I'll relocate down there. I prefer warmer weather, and have lived in Phoenix, so the weather doesn't scare me but cookie-cutter houses with no yards do.
Any insight for me.....?

Sacramento County allows hens--I think it is three. Woodland and Davis allow 6 hens per residence. West Sacramento has a limit based on lot size.

Generally speaking, cities allow hens here. In the Counties, the property needs to have an Ag zoning for chickens but you can keep roosters in Yolo County. Solano county may have limits on the number of roosters to help with the sport that we cannot name on BYC--It involves betting on a winner...

Check the property zoning for where you want to go and then the county or City website for the rules. Watch out for HOA's! They can be brutal
