California - Northern

Hello Everyone!

Wow it's been ages. Like.... 2 years? :O Shame on me.

Long story short:
We never completed our coop mansion, although it just needs a roof, siding and run. The location of the Bed & Breakfast coop we built originally will once again be our home as we're moving back to take care of the Hub's elderly grandmother.

Her neighbors dog (since re-homed) ransacked the flock twice and the sole survivor is Honey, our Ameraucana from Chickee. She hasn't laid in over a year, but I don't blame the poor thing! She has some new flock mates. Grandma picked up some feed store Light Brahmas to keep her company and lay eggs.

Once we get back and settled (hmmm right in time for spring!) we will probably be looking add to the flock and get back to what we had originally. So, Ameraucana, Orpintong, Olive eggers, Black Copper Marans and who knows what else.

Hi! I'm in Northern California, not far outside of Sacramento. Question for you all. It gets super hot here in the summer - like weeks of 105-115. Am I crazy or cruel if I get a Buff Orpington rather than breed that tolerates heat better? Anyone else in the area have healthy and happy Buff Orps despite the insane heat?

We had a monster Orp Roo as well as a Light Brahma. They both survived the heat just fine. We had a mister on a timer for the coop run that the whole flock appreciated.

Edit to add: We are about an hour's NE of Sac in the same heat.

It is good that you will be getting back to chickens. Sorry for needing to care for of the relative though.

The chicknes will help with the adjustment

I am interested in some heritage barred rock
Awesome, I am just hatching them. Do you want chicks, hens or pullet?

I have two CLB Roos I need to sell. They just are docile enough for my rooster pen. I have no clb hens so they need to go.
I would love one

Does anybody here have a pure breed buff (or white) orp rooster, pb barred plymouth rock rooster, pb australorp rooster, pb cuckoo maran rooster?

Hi Cali Peeps...:woot
We are pipping from Santa Rosa,CA. Some say that's not North CA. Oh Well! To me, it is pretty simple: SF = NORTH and LA = SOUTH
Who cares? I'm from Brazil anyways...so you're all NORTH to me! :lau

I'm sad I missed the Pacific Poultry Breeders last weekend. I'd have loved to take my girls there.

Anyhow...I have a small flock of heritage chicken and I have a lot of fertile eggs that I am willing to sell or trade. Please let me know if you are interested in either :celebrate
