California - Northern

Northern CA starts at Camp Pendleton - because everyone knows Pendleton blankets etc are a northern thing!
San Diego and points south are southern CA, LosAngeles - they are NORTH!

A non-native's anthropological observations:

You can tell you're in SoCal because everyone drives everywhere in a big hurry, is thin and tan, and is constantly talking on their cell phones at 90 miles an hour.

You can tell you're in NoCal because everyone does the same thing, but slower and in organic hemp yoga pants.

well I have been dreading the random freezes at night (two this week! to much work in the garden to cover stuff) but 55 to 90 in a week. sheesh a little hard to aclimate. But the chickys will love it in their new tractor coop.

I'm in the bay area Hercules near berkeley, anyone know any good places nearby where I can purchase ducklings and/or chicks? And as for Concord Feed..never been there...is it good &can I get to its vicinity by BART? Thanks, really appreciate it!

Hey Neighbor! The Concord Feed in Pleasant Hill is relatively close to the PH BART station. Not super close, but if you don't have a lot of options for travel it is probably your best feed store closest to a station.

They have chicks now and may already have the ducklings in. You can look at their site for an updated calendar of what they will have and when.

not sure if you want to use bus too but there is to feed stores my way which is the east bay one is called mikes feed in san leandro just a short bus ride from san leandro bart its on e14th street then there is one in hayward not far from bart it is on industrial it is called close feed and supply, mikes feed is way bigger then close feed but they both have what you need including chicks just call ahead of time to find out exactly when they will have chicks in

I'm in El Cerrito, near Berkeley. I have my 2 hens and my 3 little chicklets. I've just met with the El Cerrito vice mayor yesterday. They're going to change the Ordinance because their entire political agenda is toward sustainability, on all fronts -- the buildings, reducing transportation, recycling, everything. It's great. I think on the 4th of July I'm going to have someone come down to the City's celebration, bring chicks for backyards, and add $1.00 per chick, to go directly to Heifer International, to create sustainability on a more global level.

I'm so happy this is happening.

Napswithchickens you are with in spitting distance of me. I got 4 of my chicks at the supply hardware store in LG.
