California - Northern

This is a bit random, but I've got some coturnix quail pairs and some rabbits including a purebred (but not pedigreed) dilute tricolor rex buck if any of you lovely people are interested. I can schlep anywhere from South Lake Tahoe along 50/80 to Sacramento, Stockton, Fairfield, and SF Bay areas (incl south bay).

I haven't had much luck with people close to me seeing a main ad in trading, so just pm me for more details.

Now I am curious. How are people's chickens fairing in this heat? The last couple of days have been quite hot here.
Mine are doing fine!

The mist system comes on at 2 and goes off at 6. It does a very good job of keeping the chickens cool

When my kids were raising rabbits we would freeze half gallon jugs and put the frozen jugs in with the rabbits who would actually lay right up against the frozen jugs. It really worked great on the 100+ degree days.
We used to use misters for our chickens when they were cooped up, but our really hard water would clog the misters in just days. Now our spoiled pets just have the run of the backyard which has at least 40 fruit trees for shade.

Thanks Kern!

How are everyone’s birds doing with this heat?
Hi there. Just now seeing this as I have not been on the site for a few. I'm in Sacramento and yes, it was H.O.T. for 2 or 3 days and about to be there again. Fortunately, my coop and their large run are under a gigantic fig tree and orange tree we have in back. Their coop itself is facing north so they do not get direct sun and we get a beautiful delta breeze nearly every single evening. I made a great big watering station with 4 chicken nipples so they always have fresh water, too. I love it and so do they. It's always clean!!!

Yes, we are getting hotter for a couple of days starting tomorrow!

The trees really help with the heat

Anyone in need of a great rooster? I have a very sweet boy, not aggressive at all. He is a sapphire olive egger (BCM x CCL) and 3.5 months old. He’s started crowing and mounting my pullet.

He needs a nice home with his very own flock of hens.

Yep, misters going, fans in their chicken house on in the afternoon until 10:00 at night. I have shade cloth over their runs and wet those down which really helps. Fans pull in the cool air on the run side and fans on the other side of coop pull hot air out. Hate this heat because I really worry about my chickens overheating.
