California - Northern

Fresh clean water, refrigerated cucumbers (endless supply from the garden), frozen bananas, and ice bricks for my chooks to keep’em cool and hydrated. Also added a waterer a few days ago with electrolytes in it and they love it, preferred it even when given a choice.

Still has got me worried though this heat has been going late in the day here in Sacramento. Had to bring the last couple chicks to brood inside (ugh).

Look for an orbit mister that connects to a garden hose:

I posted in the "Animals in Need of Free Re-Homing" thread but saw advice to post in my state thread as well -- our hatchery blue Americauna (so I realize he's likely an Easter-Egger) was incorrectly sexed and turned out to be a cockerel. Unfortunately he's not allowed in my county (Alameda) and the neighbors have already complained. He was hatched in March and is a nice guy, mostly just crows in the morning (6:30 or 7) . . . but also when the security motion light goes on in the middle of the night!

He is in a rooster collar but it doesn't quiet him enough for the neighbors so we're a bit desperate! Right now we're actually having to bring him indoors to sleep in a crate at night. Can anyone take him on? Rooster flock or needing a dad for some pretty olive-eggers or easter-eggers?? I can take more photos if that helps. We are in the SF East Bay but could drive an hour or so to find him a good home.

He comes with his new "No Crow Rooster Collar" which makes him only as loud as an obnoxious hen, and I'll sweeten the deal with some homemade jam and marmalade if you can help take him off our hands! Here are some photos showing he's easily handled by kids. Any 4-H connections?? THANK YOU for considering helping us place "Chippy!"

Thats a beauty! Hope you find him a home. Not sure how many feed stores you got near you that deep in the east bay but it may be worth it to call around. Several of the ones here in sacramento will take roosters and help rehome them; if you are worried about him going in the pot just be honest and ask them up front. An EE is not known as a table bird so thats working for him too. Good luck!

Hey all! I just moved to Trinity County (Weaverville) from Loleta. I think I'm going to like it here although I miss the coast. Re-homed my flock when I moved and I'm having serious chicken DT's, I miss them so much! Setting up my new little coop and run this week and I'm looking to buy a few hatching eggs (maybe half-a-dozen?). Would like Easter Eggers or Red/Black Stars. Can pick them up in Trinity County or even western Shasta County.
Thanks! And, glad to be part of this great Northern CA group.
