California - Northern

Eggchel-

That's what I was going to say- that describes the central VALLEY.

Being one from NORTH of eureka....I also have to laugh regularly when the San Fran and Sacramento folks say they're in northern Cali!!!!! Which is why under my name, I said I was fromWAY north coastal CALI!

ANYHOW...another BYC member from Eureka once said she's from "the TRUE northern California"...I'd have to agree. Funny thing is....there's more North than even me! Way up there an hours drive is crescent city and then another 15minutes drive to the Oregon border.

Hard for small state folks (especially easterners) to understand how large cali REALLY is! If they drove all day, they could go through several states, and we could still be in the same state ALL DAY. I've driven from the Eureka area to LA.....took ALL day (14 hours back then), and there's at least a hour more on each end!

I've lived in Eureka for years, and now live in Southern Oregon. After hearing the world refer to the SFBay Area as Northern California for decades, I've come to the conclusion that the world must think that Ukiah & everything North of that is really just unclaimed Southern Oregon. 😁

Hi everyone, I’m looking to rehome 5 hens. Their owner recently passed and her family asked my help to find good homes for them. They are 2years old and laying but I don’t know their breeds for sure - their parents were mixes of cream legbar, bielefelder, and leghorn I think. If anyone is looking to add a couple layers and can pick up in the San Jose area soon, please DM me!

If anyone is looking for chicks, there's a lady on Craigslist that will be setting eggs for a April hatching. She sells a barnyard mix and I have purchased 12 from her. They are straight run also. I managed to only get 5 roosters from the 12.

You are close to average on the pullet to cockerel split!

I went to Gerber Grammar school a lot of years ago. I lived on Ottman ave., off of Rawson Road.

About my earlier post the lady's name is Zoann. For California I think she is giving a good deal because she is selling them for 5$ per chick or 6 chicks for 25$.

SO TRUE! We've lived in McKinleyville, north of Eureka for years now, and our SoCal and out-of-state friends just can't wrap their heads around the vast rural areas north of the Bay Area and maybe Napa-Sonoma wine country! We've started telling them that northern Humboldt is "almost Oregon", since Trinidad and Crescent City aren't helpful landmarks to them, either. We also say we're "behind the Redwood Curtain" and refer them to the Star Wars scenes filmed here (Planet Endor's Ewoks, etc.) The few who've come to visit are still amazed at how far we are from "civilization" :lau, and we like it that way!

Yolo, colusa, glenn, tehama, butte and Shasta counties are all huge!

Shows that are supposed to be in California can be silly too. The character goes from Sacramento to San Francisco and then to LA all in one day--back to Sacramento by dinner time LOL!

That was a show called the Mentalist.

:lau Private jet? Star Trek transporter???

I see no one has commented on the Nor Cal thread in many years, at least not that's showing up. I'm in Santa Rosa, an hour north of San Francisco. I am looking for someone who has breeding quality Silver laced Wyandottes, eggs or chicks, available next spring. I have been unhappy with the stock I've gotten from commercial hatcheries.
