I have to broodies!

Do you have fertile egg under them? My big girls are all Hatchery and none have gone broody. I have a bunch of Heritage and Breeder chickens that may go broody, especially the Dorking x Americauna= Easter Egger. I may have some next year or in the Fall that will go Broody. If I do, I may stick some Cream Legbar eggs under them. They they can say "What are those funny chicks with the spot on the back of the head?"

Hi Papa Brooder(Jeff),

I just wanted to say thanks for letting me know about the 10 Rooster minimum for the place in Sac processing them. I won't have 10 at the right age for processing at the same time. Maybe next year. I was looking at Buff Cornish Hatching eggs last week. The person said you could cross them with White Rocks to make your own meat hybrids. I wonder if you could cross them with Partridge Rocks. I have five of those already. Of course you don't have to cross them. They are supposed to make good meat birds on their own.

Yes they do, and hope yours go broody!

I use Cutler Supply and Ozbo. Ozbo has a low flat rate shipping charge, but it can take a while to get stuff from them. Shipping can be high with Cutler.

I have used Cutler, Randall & Premier. Randall will email shipping deals to me for free or $2.99 flat rate & Premier is who I am working with about the new BEC mini drinker cups. Cutler is where I get my permanent wing tags from.

Well, we lost another one last night. When I came home from work last night (around 6) I checked on my 4 remaining chicks. They all seemed fine, although one seemed to be off by itself. I checked on them again around 9 pm and noticed the one that was alone earlier was having a hard time breathing. It was gasping for breath and making a clicking sound. I looked down its throat and there was nothing stuck. I googled it's symptoms and basically had to walk away and let nature do its work. It was very sad to watch and I wish I could have done something to ease its pain. I came back to check on the sick chick at midnight and it was already dead on its back. This is my first time having and raising chickens and I feel a little let down that two of my five have already died. I really hope it's nothing I'm doing.
