That's what made us give up ducks

We have a mated pair ( and who knows, maybe this year their babies) that hang around the ravine in the back of the house. Its protected around here so when we asked for a permit to catch her, they just laughed at us. between that and the pair of foxes, I feel like I live in the sierra Nevada's instead of 10 min form downtown San Jose....
Oh, to add to my party form, I just found out I have an extra Marans rooster, as well as my little red silkie. If anyone wants Constance, let me know. Shes VERY quiet, shes not crowing yet but is mounting hens. i was certain she was just a really colorful hen till last week, ugg.

This means that out of 4 hatches, I've only managed to produce a single marans hen. evil I say, evil!

I'm sorry for everyones heat wave, its getting in the 90's here, but not the 100's . I've just been putting ice cubes in the waterers and giving some frozen treats in the afternoon.

I have bought 8 Marans chicks over a 3 week period. Out of that I have managed it appears to be 2 pullets. The rest are dudes. However my Orpington luck is awesome. It looks like my first 4 Orp chicks are 1 cock and 3 pullets (but now at 6 weeks one Orp is just starting to get a pink comb so I don't know if that means it was a he that was just slow on the uptake or not) and I can already make out about 3 hens from my second set of 6 I bought. I am thinking Marans was just not in the cards for me.

I sent my last chick that died in for a Necropsy on Tuesday. I used FedEx over night this time. I just got a call from FedEx saying they mis-sorted my package and it's currently in North Carolina! Omg I have the worst luck! By the time the chick gets to UC Davis in this heat, it's going to be too late :-( So probably no report to tell me what the heck is going on.

I'm sorry to say that I'm culling my two BV chicks tonight. They are sick and costing me way too much money.. And the breeder doesn't want to take them back into his flock. I wish that breed would have worked out but they're not. Having 5 out of 7 die is too much! I'm so nervous to do it. If any one wants them please let me know ASAP! I'd much rather rehome them. I hope posting this doesn't offend anyone.

I have a question. I heard today that there was a ban on Game chickens in California.
Is this true? I can't believe that they could ban a breed of chickens.

I don't know of a ban on Games here. I know some of us have them. It may be a ban on fighting Cocks.

Does anybody here know?

If not I can check to see.

First to say... yup!

It is a bobcat. It's tail was flicking, and the camera wasn't fast enough. This one only has spots on it's belly. Last time my father saw it... it had a dead white housecat in it's mouth.
