California - Northern

Hi there!

Me and my three hens are competing in the Santa Clara fair this year.

Three blue orpingtons. This is my first year competing, i'm not participating in showmen ship though, they'll be judged in the cage, forgot what it's called.

Such a sweetie.

Thanks so much!
I'm so nervous. I gave my hens a bath, I felt so silly but all their natural oils are coming back and i'm so excited, they look beautiful!

OMG that made me laugh out loud! Well that's great news, very treatable...

Are you coming to the party now? :)
So what exactly is the treatment for missing head syndrome?

I have read many posts that say that respiratory symptoms can be caused by worms, so better to worm first and if that doesn't help THEN try antibiotics for the respiratory symptoms, but have been skeptical as it seems odd that an intestinal issue can result in respiratory symptoms. Seems like that is exactly what was going on though! Fortunately treating the worms is much easier than treating the missing head.

well, since I didn't think I could go, I made other plans. My husband and I are going to ... wait for it... hang sheetrock. Oh joy of joys. I tried to convince him I could do it myself during the week, but he reminded me of the time I tried to decapitate myself with the power drill. I'm not allowed to play with power tools by myself anymore.
On the bright side, it means we'll be able to move back in to the master bedroom sooner. I'm tired of camping out in the living room.

Have/are any of you competing in the Santa Clara fair?
Or do you know anyone that is?
Chickens are very under appreciated in the Campbell FFA. :(

Really? I didn't know that. It seems odd to me too, but then I know nothing.
Nobody else has any symptoms. They're probably scared if they get sick, it'll turn into missing head syndrome. Might be contagious, y'know.

Thanks so much!

I was surprised the first time I gave a chicken a bath. They actually seemed to enjoy it, and they ended up looking gorgeous.

Good luck in your show!
