My new Ecoglow 50 stopped working last night. Crap!! I woke up this morning and it won't turn on. The chicks aren't huddling or acting cold but will they get sick from being cold during the night? Dude, not cool! Luckily my boyfriends sister is here to get her quail so when she leaves we can use the red light we're using for them right now. Ugh!
This happened to us (not ecoglow though) and we used a small portable heater in the bathroom with them until we could get a light. Worked great! Sorry it took a dump like that- how scary!!

Hi Megan,

The problem may be the transformer. Call Brinsea support. They will sell you a new power brick if that is the problem.

They won't get sick and should perk up fine after they get the heat back. The Marraduna feather very quickly. The Pita Pintas look like the feather more slowly. Did you put the heating pad in with them?

oh. my. gosh. They ARE teeny! You could fit 2 in one of those little jar lids! hehe So darn cute! What do they sound like that little? Is it adorable?
LOL I know! My 1 week old chicks look like giant dinosaurs compared to the quail!

Thanks! When I was at the feed store- the poor guy looked quite mystified and said the guy to talk to wouldn't be in until Tuesday. :| But oddly- I am not hearing the wet nose cough anymore.
I'm going soon. I will ask when I'm there!

lol yeah we now have rain thunder and lightning...
Wow really?? It's been colder here but no sign of a thunder storm.

Oh man- gives me chick fever. You picked such fun breeds to try out. I cannot wait to watch them grow out for you!
They are so cute Zoo! When you hold them they're like solid tanks. These guys are so hardy! I'm having fun watching them grow and posting pictures. I hope nobody minds the weekly picture update!

I will have cream legbar chicks for sale around mid- September. If the girls keep laying like they are I will start sell hatching eggs early September after I've waited 30 days since separating them. I may sell a handful for cheaper earlier than that as I won't be positive about purity or I may just hatch and see what I get. I'm gonna set my first eggs in a week!! I've been getting 3 each day so I'm excited to start hatching. My Swedish flower hens are also laying. My cream legbars are from Jordan farms and sunny side farms a trio from each
Yay recouping some money! LOL Good luck Jeff!!

We came up to Lake Tahoe to spend the night. It was raining HARD, with lots of thunder and lightening. It was so refreshing after all the heat at home. Although, it just never clicked with me to pack a jacket, since I had the AC on at home and I only live an hour away. It was quite chilly last night and I had to come in from the balcony.

Dang, didn't ask the house sitter (my son) to lock up the chickens last night. We have some that still need to be picked up and put in the coop at lockdown. They just got moved outside and still haven't put it together. I hope they were smart enough to go in last night on their own. Otherwise they would have had to huddle up under the coop/overhang.

It's one thing to ask your house sitter to let the dogs in/out, throw hay to the sheep/alpacas, drop the pop doors on the coops, it's quite another to ask them to catch 50 or so teenage chicks and place them into the coop because they are too silly to go up the ladder!

we are in Pleasant Valley at 2500 feet. within 5 miles it climbs to 4000 ft so sometimes it will rain and pour here but not even 8 miles nw in Placerville. I did hear from a few people in Cameron Park they had the same deal though.

Heck no!! Post away! I love watching them grow! It actually even helps me decide what other breed we may want to add next Spring. We are still undecided.

They are ohh so cute. I am excited to see the pita pinta progress. how they grow out. there is not much info anywhere on them.
Johnny and I are going to start pulling together information on the breed soon and translating it into English. I've had a couple people ask about the breed but don't have a website that's good to send them too yet. It's definitely on our to-do list!

Hello! I'm Laurie in Livermore. I've posted here before. I have a problem. I'm in a no rooster city. This morning, I woke up to beginner crowing! The culprit seems to be a Cuckoo Marans french type (feathered legs). The little guy is only 11 weeks old! Roody Roo has to go, today, before the neighbors have the police here. I'd be willing to drive him up to 80 miles or so due to the urgent situation. So, does anyone want a precocious little Cuckoo Marans guy? Today??
Thanks for your consideration.
Hey Laurie! Welcome back to the thread. I'm Megan in Concord. I'm sorry to hear your pullet turned into a roo! Sorry I can't help but try posting on Craigslist as well as BYC. Good luck finding the little guy a home!

ok I know you all will understand this.
I am cracking up
With my younger chickens in the grow up pen I have 2 25 gallon bamboo in there.
I love watching the young chickens jump up to grab the leaves.
it really makes me laugh when one gets one and it does not pull off the bamboo.
then you have a chicken (usually one of my icelandics)
dangling from a bamboo leaf.

LOL That would be hilarious to watch!

By the way, good luck finding homes for your babies!!

ahh always something. I have a pretty bad left leg from something I did last weekend and left the food out in the rain last night

Chicken math question...when I thin my flock out I will have about 14 hens and 2-3 roos. My coop + run is 10x10 and 8x8. So that means we are hitting out max for how many chickens we can squeeze in there. In about 2 months though - about the time we thin the flock is about the time we open the coop door to let them free range. So they will get some day time to stretch their chicken legs and bug hunt. I really really want to add a couple bantams. Like REALLY bad. Can I squeeze a couple in there- or just hold off until next year when we either build a larger coop/add to the current one or build a second one (unsure which option we will be going for honestly).

Oh and quarantine question: I am giving a friend 2 of my good quality Buff Orps. They are under Corid treatment until Aug9. Should I wait any length of time after that before giving them to her? And how long should she quarantine the 2 I give her when I DO give them to her? Her other chickens came from a hatchery (don't know if that matters). Thanks guys!

I think you have plenty of room if they free range. plus 2 bantams equal 1 chicken
