Aww what kind of puppy again? They are so sweet!
Very cute, congrats on having survivors!one more photo from me this week -- here are the two chicks who made the cross-country trek: cream legbar on left, splash isbar on right
two days in & they seem to be doing okay! i think it helps that they now have the guest bathroom all to themselves, the four-week-olds moved out to the coop yesterday, so the noise and chaos has been minimized...
And not to butt in, but they were Golden Retrievers.

Quote: so far so good, all seem happy and have learned to drink from the nipples in all of 2 minutes. i put in buckets just in case but they seem fine. Thanks!
Quote: thanks mike. yeah found them at wal mart too. also buy my hinges and handles and stuff there. way cheaper than depot...will see how it survives winter.
Quote: ah yes, that would be a problem.
oh no, bummer. did that one come small? I just grabbed them without paying much attention because it was so early. is it one of the blues or black? Their hatch mates have been fine in the last week but they are still in the brooder so shouldn't be something from here. cheryl was telling me to give some sugar water when i first transport chicks to help them perk up. so sorry the broody didn't work out and now you have an extra stress. :-( hope you get some good advice. in treating chicks i've really only ever dealt with coccidiosis and treated with either sulmet or corrid, but doesn't sound like thats the case here. is the chick puffy at all?Well shoot, one of my new Marans chick isn't doing well. It's about half the size of the others (they're about 2 weeks) and I noticed yesterday morning, when they all got out of the brooder that there was a loose poo (the right color but just loose) and this one was lagging behind a bit. They were out all day yesterday and I brought them in again last night to keep them warm (didn't work out with the broody, I'll post about that later), but this morning I noticed this little one seemed to be less active. She is eating and drinking (I put vitamins and electrolytes in the water) but when I took them outside the others ran off to forage but this one stood there peeping loudly. I took it closer to its buds and it was walking like a drunk. I fed the rest of the animals but when I checked again it was keeping up with the group but you could see it was having a hard time. I brought it in the house and have it in my shirt because it was crying for its buddies.......and I hear clicking when it breaths. Not sure if it's just because it just drank or if its a respiratory thing. It's finally quieted down but still peeping on and off.
Any ideas whats wrong and suggestions on what to do? I'm going to get some Polyvisol (w/o iron) but should I start antibiotics?
Posted this on the Nevadans? thread too, looking for advice, so sorry for the double post if anyone else reads both threads
Hope (Orp) chicken is acting lethargic. Looks sleepy and puffy. Still wants to eat and drink. No other symptoms. I haven't seen her poop so I cannot comment. She is thin. Same symptoms of Sick (marans) chicken (died on Monday). Sleepy (marans) also acting the exact same way. They have both been off this week so it's not new just worse for Hope. Sleepy is the same as she was days ago- no worse - possibly slightly better because she is off running with the flock foraging. A few days ago she would not do that- so I guess for her that is an improvement.
Their skin is totally clear- when we wormed them the other night we were able to check the skin on each chicken and it was all white and smooth - no bumps. No one is stumbling or anything. Just lethargic and thin and Hope is noticeably puffy.
I'm looking in my chicken handbook. A third symptom would be helpful but there are not any. When Sleepy pooped earlier this week I rushed over to look and it looked like normal poop (yellowy brown solids a little bit of white and a little clear slime covering it.
Since Sleepy is foraging I left her alone. I took Hope inside and put her on vitamin water and scrambled egg. Last time I gave her egg she perked up a lot.
These 3 chickens (Sick, Sleepy and Hope) have been off for over 2 weeks. Sick chicken first, but Sleepy was off at the same time just not as bad. Hope I noticed she was off about a week ago but she has always struggled (to gain weight and really thrive) since her nasty bout with cocci like a month ago. But today Hope is noticeably not feeling well. Head tucked in, very puffy, sleepy eyes, super lethargic. There is no breathing issues, or anything.
Frustrating! If it was a parasitic overload- how soon would the Ivermectin really kick in and help?
