Yes, a lot of things are protected. You probably have trees and cover for them, so this must be a very persistent Hawk. Maybe you could make a safe area with bird netting over the top to keep the hawk out. I have also read that you can sometimes train Life Stock Guardian dogs to protect against Hawks.

You could maybe make a big chicken tractor?

Let us know what you figure out.

You lucky duck. I wish my DH had carpentry skills. I hired a carpenter to build my coops but they always seem to take 1-2 longer than projection and at $200 per day it gets expensive. I am starting to think buying one already built may be the way to go. I seriously doubt I can build one for less than what cconly.com sells them for. I just worry about the quality.

Cooper, that's horrible! Was he your only male of that breed? I'm so sorry!

I have heard of people stringing fishing line across the run area, crisscrossed, to keep the hawks out. In a large area, they put t-posts throughout the range area, to attach the line to.

Make sure that they have some sort of shelters everywhere to duck under. I've seen A-frames & even trampolines used for protection from hawks.

What's the project?
My BBS Eng orps are coming of age and need their own pen. I also want to break my Crele Laced Polish into two lines. I could also use a couple more juvie pens. Oh, the list goes on. The problems with new pens..... I always find a way to fill them.

yes he was. he was doing his job I am sure. I have to get rid of the problem though. I do not have a way to cover them.
I see where he perches though. I was very surprised that he could swoop in to the Empordanesa run. It is narrow and long with many obstacles.
I put the grow up run by there small coop for the next few days. will keep the rest in there bigger coop until I can take care of the situation. Saturday am

Yeah I will have to look into it Friday night. However it will take see some time to get stuff figured out and built so hopefully for its sake it stays away.

Quote: I keep thinking I need to get rid of someone. I can't even bring myself to let go of my 2 year old feedstore egg flock (of course it would help if some of the lazy LF would start laying). My campines and lakenvelder lay pretty reliably, but not the size my customers like. I have spoiled them with jumbo eggs.

On a brighter note, I scored a 6x10 pen today on CL. We'll be ready for the ducks when they arrive.
