The Chickens are still hatching. There are 13 eggs left and I see 3 pips.
Why are Rhodebar chicks so cute? They look much better than the pictures on Feather Site!

One tolbunt (one one I had in there) and the first F4 lav marans just hatched!! I know I know pics coming soon
hopefully more chicks in a week. Really could use some good news. I just set up the 65 gallon fish tank in the dining room where the baby's will stay a week or two before they go in the garage
Wow you are really devoted, Larry would KILL me if I had them in the house... but I do have a room in the garage so I guess it's different
I'm thinking my next day off I'm going to have to buy a heater for the shed. Any advice? For those of you with cream legbars- since they auto sex. Once you have your breeders established- when you hatch more to sell (chicks) what will/do you do with the extra boys. Since you are not likely to need them and you cannot sell them unsexed (because they are already sexed) do you grow the cockerels out and rehome them alter or do you cull the extra males while still hatchlings? You can PM me if you do not want to share in thread. I am really curious.
I may want to do cream legbars instead of Easter eggers so if I breed with a dark brown layer - for some olive eggers - would they still be auto sexing? Or do they lose that when mixing them with another breed?
Excuse my typos. Sent from my iPhone.
Cheryl, how warm do you keep that room? I have always kept my baby chicks in a shed... I have the echo glows. A few weeks ago I put some chicks out in the shed like I always do... The next morning when I went down to feed, half dead. The other half died over a few days. Now I have chicks in my laundry room...Not Good!I'm thinking my next day off I'm going to have to buy a heater for the shed. Any advice?![]()
Holy Moly.. i just counted the chicks in my brooder and there are 70!!! Yikes.... My last two incubations were not that successful, but I realized this time that one bator is a better hatcher than the others. Of 40 eggs, only 3 did not hatch after lock down, then 6 days later I put another 37 eggs in that same bator for lockdown and 33/37 hatched. I need to move these guys out to the barn brooder today but it is stormy and I am feeling lazy.
