they are nice. I may be once this particular hawk goes away. I need a big strong rooster to run with the layers . I think right now would not be a good idea as anything not confined is getting killed. Maybe once the dust settles.

Molly/Cheryl, I have the large size eco-glow, but I use it in the middle stage of my brooder from GQF. The top unit is heated and the bottom two are for growouts. This way I have a very warm incubator on top, the gentle heat from the ecoglow in the middle and a grow out on the bottom. The unit resides in our workshop and stays fairly warm anyway.

The next stage is they move to a grow out pen in a wooden shed we have. This is the heat lamp I use and I couldn't rave more about it. http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=18266&cat_id=173 I don't constantly have to worry about a fire from a clamp style heat lamp. I sprung for the stand and it is wonderful. http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=83120&cat_id=173 This also was a super buy and I'm so glad I got it.

When they are finished with the indoor shed, they get moved to a pen with a full roof attached to the shed. They basically have three walls and a roof to make the next transition. Next step, out to a coop/run in the "chicken compound". It works for us and you need something to do when you are in the 250-300 bird stage. Not to mention the 100 eggs I have cooking right now and the NYD hatch coming up.

Then I need to get serious about hatching the next generation for my show birds.

Speaking of which, we got home last night from Reno. I'll post some pictures once I get organized, but it was an 800+ bird show. On champion row for selecting best in show, 30ish birds, I had 2 up there

Thank you so much for all the info...I have the same GQF brooder you do. The shed I use for the brooder is only five feet wide. I was finding it hard to work around. I think I need to get a bigger shed for the brooder, so I can use the GQF set up again... It is sitting in my husband shop "NOT being used." He wont allow chicks in his shop.. What a Butt!! Guess he will have to build me a bigger Room. LOL
I LOVE the heat lamp and stand you have. Going to order that today... Great set up! I would love to come see your set up someday... It would be great seeing how I can improve my set up..Its been a work in progress. I need to stop collecting breeds....

I moved the 20 chicks down to the brooder. I put them into a box that they send chicks home from the feed store in for a hoot:

It makes me sneeze too.

I am cleaning up the incubator and will set it up to hatch the Penes. They go into lockdown on Tuesday and are scheduled to hatch on Friday. One thing I have been noticed it the chick dust getting into the sensor on the incubator. I make sure to clean and air dust to make sure the sensor is not clogged up.

Geez. $900 for a 10x10 coop? Does that sound about right? Are we doing something wrong? I'm going bonkers stressing over the cost. That's insane.

Just let me know if and when you are ready for one! These boys have another 2 weeks free ranging at the farm and then we are going to decide which ones we are keeping for our breeding program. I'll let you know which ones are available after that. My best friend lives outside of Placerville off of Snows Road so I would love a reason to make a trip up there!

is it prebuilt? then that sounds correct. even 10x6 open coops will cost that much. You can do it yourself for less depending on what you use

really that is by where I live. Pleasant Valley area. I can probably find room but want the pesky hawk gone. I hope he will just get tired of waiting for them to come out
