Well ill be breeding it to my barred cock so I hope it all works out good I can try at the least.

You can go ahead and breed her but it's not only a defect but a major deformity.....

Most cross beak is genetic. I wouldn't breed anything with it.

I can try at least.

You sure can but why push it when you have others to work with....like Jerry's famous words "your time, your dime and your chicken".

Gumbii, I have not encountered the problem so I would know.

I remembered this from reading on oegb/serama forums in the genetic/breeding section.

Never a good idea to purposely put defective genetics into a breeding program. JMHO but it is your chicken...your program.

i have read about having a standard roo over a bantam hen... the chick will be too big for the egg... sometimes causing leg problems or just never hatching because there is no room...

and that's a good saying jerry has... the only thing i see wrong with crooked beak is that his goals are going to take longer with that hen... but it's okay... people on the leopard gecko forum didn't want me to breed pikachu in my R.A.P.T.O.r breeding program... he was a huge yellow gecko with a lightning bolt tail... but all of the offspring came out perfect...

right now i have a blue laced red shamo project... i have a good breeding pair, but they have green legs... so i have more breeding stock to put the yellow leg back in... i know most wouldn't breed them but i'm looking forward to the challenge...

I wouldn't breed a cross beaked chicken because cross beak is a deformity. Not just a color or comb issue. Sometimes it can get so bad that the bird can't even eat.

Ok thanks but im going to do what I think is best and I think i can work with it and there is still a small chance it was NOT from deformity and it happened as a chick!

jake when looking at genetics remember its a 50/50 deal with parents.....you toss that pullet in mix all of its offspring will carry the gene and if i was someone to buy from you would want to know you only bred the best....in no way would i want that deformity to possibly show up in my blood line and possibly effect all my brood....its up to you but remember we are all counting on each other to do the right thing and if that means keeping the lil pullet as a pet then maybe that is what needs to be done..... knowing you might breed her i wouldnt buy any birds from that line even though i know the cock came from awesome stock....do you see my point?

Ya but even Cara Said try it and if the offspring turns out with crooked beak keep the hen as a pet and dont breed her at all so ill test mate her with him if the offspring has deformities dont breed her again.
