Hi everyone... I'm new here. Don't have any chickens yet but will have in the spring!! I'm in Vista right off of the Oceanside border. I'm looking for sources for Orpingtons other than the buff. Any suggestions?

Welcome, Sweet Violet! I'm in the High Desert near Victorville...about 2 hrs from you. My mom used to live in Fallbrook though...not too far from where you're at. I am sure you wil quickly find that this site is addicting!

I'm not much help with the Orpingtons though since I don't have any.

What is a Buckeye ? The only one I know about is a tree and is the state tree of OHIo. Truly, on BYC you will find much information and surely addiction. ROTF

Hi Violet! I'm down in San Diego, and picked up a couple of buff orps from a feedstore in Lakeside. The types of chicks they have varies all the time, so it might serve you to call around your local feed stores and see what they have. If they know you're looking for orps (other than buff), maybe they'll order some in for you!

Welcome!

Buckeye's are a breed that originated in Ohio (go figure

). They are a lot of fun! They are considered a rare breed; however, mine are from a hatchery, so who knows what's in their bloodline. There are several breeders on here though.

Oh thanks . And then a few days later I noticed that there is a site/thread on Buckeyes ! They are good looking birds . Almost weekly I find out about a new breed of chicken. It sure is a good thing that I only have so much space otherwise I just might acquire an unresonable amount of birds. Yicks !
