Oh No Hosspak. That sucks :( I am so sorry. Weird. The buff I kept is a strange one too though her comb always has a touch of blue. Which is not a great sign even though she seems happy. They were feed store chicks and I don't think I'll ever go that route again.

Yes looks like Susan is working on one for April.

We have a box of chicks coming in March, and we'll have to consider who's staying and who's moving on about that time so I'm sure I'll have a couple layers for sale to make room for the chicks we keep.

Wait, that was very rude! I'm sorry you lost your hen, rick. You don't know why she died? How old was she?
Oh stop! That wasn't rude... But very insensative!!!!!

It's ok, she was livestock, not a pet. I always knew you were gonna be trouble.... what do you have?

I think she was under 1 year and I have no idea why, she was the only one that was acting strange. I think it had something to do with her egg tract. She would lay every 3 or 4 days, right after she would look fine still a little low key and stay by her self, but she would perk up for a day or two, then start to slow down and sit on a perch until she laid. She did that for a couple of weeks. It is what it is, it happens!

I guess I now have an excuse to find some blue and olive eggers. Just don't tell the DW.

My roo's get blue in their combs, I've never seen it in the hens though. It comes and goes so I wouldn't worry about much. I still need to get rid of both roo's and maybe.....just maybe...I might seriously start looking for a couple of blue and olive layers..... But keep it on the low down...or the down side... or whatever the kids say now a days.
