Nice meeting you Martha. Look forward to seeing you at the next event. My boys had a good time. We left there to go check out a coop for sale that we found on Craigslist but it was poorly designed and too heavy for what we need. Based on our area and the heat we get, we think we need more run and less coop! We are just going to convert a cabinet into a "coop" and create a heavily shaded and well ventilated run.

I always love seeing kids having fun and with chickens or any kind of poultry. Your boys are around the age of some of my grand kids, but I hardly ever get to see them because they live in Minnesota and Washington State if they were here closer I would be teaching them everything I could about chickens etc., so it is always nice seeing other young kids doing what I would love to see my grand-kids do.

For those who attended the Norco meet-up;
As promised, I called the Norco Parks and Rec. Department this morning. I called Brian Petree's number 951-270- 5632. He is listed as the Director of Parks for Norco. I talked to a very nice lady named Maria, twice actually... I asked her what it would take to rent the pavilion at Snipes park. She said the cost to rent the patio would be $188 dollars for the whole day ($75 dollars of that is a refundable deposit but forfeited if cancelled at last minute.) The only restrictions were; no staking into the ground and if over 100 people the City would need an insurance deposit (don't know what that entails for $1,000,000). So anyway, I asked her if we needed a "permit" to use the park, she said no! She also said the pavilion was first come-first served use. I also asked if we had rented the pavilion does that mean we have exclusive use of the park area, she said no! We would only be guaranteed the use of the pavilion and others were entitled to the rest of the park. I asked specifically, if we had a group of people who brought chickens and met at the park to socialize and hang out, did we need some kind of permit, she said no! At that point I ask her what I needed to do to file a complaint regarding a city employee who had kicked our group out of the park. She is emailing me the form! I called back a 3rd time and talked to another nice lady named Robin. I asked her if we needed a permit to use the park for showing and exchanging our chickens and animals and socializing. I told her we had been meeting there twice a year for the last 4 years without any problems. She said she had driven by and noticed that the park was busier than normal and noticed that AC was there. I told her that I talked to him and he said everything looked ok and we didn't appear to be doing anything wrong. She said that his boss was also her boss and she will check into it with her boss and get back to me on the issue of either needing a permit for sales or having the animals there because she wasn't sure what the policy would be.

Thanks

I think we should rent it next time.

Its a great meet up and a grat location

The raffle can be used to cover the costs. We did that @ offgridMAMA place to cover the porta-potty rental.

If there is an over funding we can save for next meetup. if less, ask for donations.

just a thought

Updated information; Robin just called me back. She said if we are "selling" then we need state vendor permits AND we would be required to get a Norco use permit (basically rent the pavilion) AND depending on what we are actually doing as a "group", Norco may need to have AC do an inspection of our animals or the event (probably a one time thing). She is sending me a list of questions that she wants from us, so she can find the answers from all the city people involved. So it may sound like a lot of hoops to jump through at first so that way we might not have to be hassled in the future...

Ok, chickens heads; Please write this down for your future reference; Venti Caramel Frapp w/add shot, whip blended in, and NO whip or sauce on top. That's the usual StarBucks order. UPDATE: Seller's permits are free unless you are required to report sales tax (profits over $100,000). The Board of Equalization gives out the permits. You might not even need a permit if this "hobby" does not make a profit.... Here is a site for state publications which will answer alll of our questions;http://www.boe.ca.gov/sutax/staxpubsn.htm. I also talked to someone at the BOE office in Riverside who helped with this. The permit process would depend on each individual's situation, so NO group vendor permit. If someone who has more time then I (no homework time today, lol (OCD)) can help go through all this info, I think our whole group will benefit from this. We just need to figure out the rental deposit for each meet up. But I'm still digging into the info. AND there is a site for "Get it in writing" so if you ask a question, the BOE will give you an answer in writing, so you can show other entities why or why not, you do or don't need a permit....

UPDATE: I just recieved this from the City of Norco. If those of you can answer any of these questions, PM me and I will include it in my response. I would like input from Susan and Bea because I'm thinking they are the one's who put these together. Thanks to everyone who helps with this...

Richard,
As a result of our conversation today, I am sending this email. What I would like you to do is send me an email explaining exactly what you and your group do when you gather in April and October. Please provide as much detail as possible. I would need to know the name of your group, are you a non-profit, how many people gather at each event, how many vendors do you have, do the vendors sell items, do you advertise and any other information you may think is pertinent.

Your details will allow me or someone in my department to provide you with specific details of what may be required from you to have your event at a local park. Some of the things that come to mind – a possible inspection by an Animal Control Officer, inspections by the Fire Department, Resale licenses for all vendors, one-day City of Norco business License. Understanding your purpose will help me gather the correct info for you.

In speaking with the Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services, he feels that the Pole Barns at the Ingalls Equestrian Event Center next to the Animal Control Shelter may better fit your needs. We have in the past, had rabbit shows and goat shows at that facility that were very successful.

We would like to help you out with your event, but we must make sure all the laws are being followed.

Robin Shepard, Executive Secretary
City of Norco Parks, Recreation and Community Services

I was unable to attend this past weekend's Norco meet-up. Sorry it was a flop. I am still hosting a BACKYARD meet-up at my place in Pomona on May 24th. I have just realized this is indeed Memorial Day weekend so if this date is not great, just holler, we can swing something different.

The goal of this meet-up is going to be clearing our those Easter Hatch-Along chicks. How many of you are participating?? I have Carriebain's 4 dz cooking away at my place. I have a large enough backyard with LARGE covered patio to accommodate a decent crowd.

This meet-up will NOT be potluck, I will happily supply ice water and maybe even some iced tea, just bring a cup and your own food. Please PM me about the date, and if it will work for you. We'll go from there.

I'll leave you with a picture of 2 of the 3 Croad Langshans that hatched out a week ago. We have 2 ( a blue and a black) for sale. Marek's Vaccinated

One thing that would make me a bit nervous about being next door to the animal shelter is there will be a greater risk of diseased animals that have been taken in & germs blowing our way. The park always felt a bit *safer* because other fowl are not usually there other than wild birds.

I felt a bit funny about the poor people having a party at the pavilion right after chickens, ducks, etc were pooping in the grass & in the table area. I know it's Norco but if I were coming to a party with a crawling baby or toddler I would like to know there are land mines all over the place more than the usual amount of pigeon poop.

Our get together is a great thing, no one has been getting rich selling their wares & animals but the thought of us all having permits & having to jump thru hoops in order to be *vendors* is a bummer. I would personally still try to participate as there are some neat people I have met there & it's a great place to be able to look at lots of chickens in one place instead of a lot of driving all over to pick them out so I would try to do whatever. I may or not participate as a vendor depending on how it ends up going down with permits. I consider our organic chicken feed "sales" more as a buying club to get a better price for people and don't want to do anything that would classify me as a "feed store" as I am probably not zoned for that. I just buy in bulk & find people to offer it to so I can keep getting fresh orders. For people selling chickens or eggs or some other live animals I consider it more like people *rehoming* their pets with a small rehoming fee to cover the cost of feeding them until that point.

I would be willing to donate towards a rental fee or be fine with us meeting on the grass under the trees instead.

Thanks always to those that will be muddling thru this to try to keep it going for all of us!

It wasn't a flop as there were a lot of people there & we had a good three plus hours before all the mess happened. From my perspective it went well & there were more people than the last one I was at. It's just now everything from here on out will be different & that is a shame.

I won't be able to go to yours because it is Memorial Day Saturday but I am pretty busy all May & June so my input really doesn't matter on the date on this one!

I hope you have a great turnout & lots of fun & fellowship & swapping :)
