Can you describe "flu"?

There are some approved poultry remedies, but they may require withdrawal periods for egg consumption, and the problem may still be dormant within your flock i.e. if you add new birds them may contract it or if your birds are rehomed they may affect the new flock.

UC Davis Extension may have some information to share if you would like contact info.
the 2 silkie nostrils or completely congested "thick snot" they have to breath from their mouth one is really struggling ,both their eyes are puffy and the hamshire is walking around slow and clumsy doesn't eat much she will find a place in the morning sit half the day ,then find herself a new spot and sit there the rest of the day. ive been giving them vitamins because they don't eat much

You may want to find out what you have before you start medicating, as meds can mask what the actual problem is. Do you have a poultry vet in your area?

Tylan soluble powder was an approved over the counter medication for poultry with respiratory problems, but it doesn't seem to be available anywhere, so that may have changed - does anyone have better information?

I just looked it up. It seems like it is a prescription only drug as on the order page they want to contact your vet for a prescription before it is sold.
Seems like a very good idea as antibiotic resistant bacteria is predicted to be the next mass killer of humans in a few decades.
Not surprising since they are used so indescriminatly both in medicine and especially in the food industry :(

Hi Phage,
I am told that tylosin/Tylan is now on the FDA Veterinary Feed Directive List, which matches what you found: it is no longer OTC, but is available under the direction of a veterinarian.
Do you know of any poultry veterinarians in San Diego County? You can pm me if you want.

@artblueggwanter
I checked in with the UC Davis Veterinary School Poultry Extension specialist, and he pointed out that the clinical signs could reflect bacterial or viral infections which require a different course of action, therefore seeing a poultry vet is necessary to appropriately diagnose and treat the underlying problem. This benefits your flock directly, and others in the future.

Are you familiar with the CAHFS labs?
