I rehomed my rooster today (can't have him where I live) found him a nice farm with lots of ladies to love, but it still felt sad. My girls all stood at the gate and watched him go, looking a little confused.

That was a good find for your roo.
I can appreciate your sadness.

It's always sad to re-home a roo you (or his ladies) have grown attached to but you know he is alive and well and that is rewarding! We lost our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana this morning - euthanized at the vet after having a few months of failing health that we thought was just due to hot weather. So impossible to diagnose chickens' health issues

So sorry for your loss. I am dreading having to eventually do those things too

Where do you live? I love polish chickens. I wouldnt mind a roo. I had one but he passed away. Were not suposted to have them in west covina either but animal control is a joke around here.

I'm located in the Long Beach area. My girlfriend really wants to keep him because he is such a beautiful bird and they're really hard to find around here but I don't want to push my luck with the neighbors since they've been really cool with things so far. I'm going to have some white crested black polish, buff laced polish, and white polish chicks all females available for sale in a week or two if all goes well. I was hoping to sell the silver laced cockerel for $40 to try and recoup all the money invested in mealworms, feed, care, etc. put in to get him where he is today. If that's something you would be interested in I can message you when we're ready to part with him

You're right -- it's never easy. In 5 yrs out of 13 chickens, 2 were re-homed as roos, 4 bully hens were re-homed to egg-sellers, 4 died from various causes, and now we only have 2 Silkies and 1 Breda left. I have another Breda pullet on order but it doesn't ease the sadness of losing our Taffy girl this morning

My last photos of her this morning.
